Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Growing Balance SheetA substantially larger balance sheet provides structural scale for lending and deposits, enabling a broader franchise across retail, SME and corporate segments. Scale supports diversified interest and fee income streams and gives capacity to expand loan books or seize market share over the medium term.
2025 Cash Flow ReboundRe-establishing positive operating and free cash flow signals the bank can generate internal liquidity after prior outflows. Durable cash generation enables funding of loan growth, provisioning flexibility, and reduces near-term reliance on external financing if management sustains the improved working capital and earnings dynamics.
Diversified Customer FranchiseA multi-segment customer base spreads revenue risk across retail deposits, SME lending and corporate services. This structural diversification supports stable deposit funding, recurring fee opportunities (payments, cards, wealth products) and resiliency to shocks concentrated in any single client cohort.
Bears Say
Sharp Rise In DebtA material jump in total debt significantly raises leverage and funding risk. Higher debt amplifies interest expense sensitivity and can strain capital ratios, reducing financial flexibility. Elevated leverage makes the bank more vulnerable to credit or liquidity stress and constrains strategic investments.
Low And Falling ROEPersistently low ROE indicates the bank is generating weak returns relative to its capital base. Over time this undermines shareholder value creation and limits retained-earnings capacity to absorb losses or fund growth, necessitating either higher risk-taking, capital injections, or reduced growth ambitions.
Multi-year Cash Flow VolatilityRepeated negative operating and free cash flows signal unstable earnings quality and potential working-capital or asset-liability mismatches. Such volatility complicates planning, increases reliance on external funding during stress, and raises execution risk for sustaining lending or dividend policies.
