Bulls Say, Bears Say

Bulls Say
2025 Revenue ReboundA material revenue rebound in 2025 indicates recovering demand and improved origination/distribution execution. Sustained higher top-line provides capacity to expand net interest income and fees, supports reinvestment in channels, and underpins longer-term earnings recovery if maintained.
Earnings StabilityRelatively stable net income across 2020–2025 points to resilient core profitability and diversified revenue streams. Consistent earnings reduce capital planning volatility, support predictable provisioning and dividend policy, and help weather cyclical credit or funding stresses over the medium term.
Improved Cash Generation In 2025Restoring positive operating and free cash flow enhances internal funding capacity and liquidity flexibility. If sustained, this reduces reliance on volatile wholesale funding, improves ability to finance loan growth and absorb credit costs, and strengthens medium-term balance-sheet resilience.
Bears Say
Volatile LeverageLarge swings in reported leverage and a sudden debt jump create uncertainty about capital and funding strategy. Inconsistent leverage complicates regulatory capital planning, raises refinancing and funding cost risk, and makes forecasting risk-weighted asset capacity and dividend capacity less reliable.
Highly Variable Cash Flow HistoryPersistent swings in operating and free cash flow highlight weak cash conversion and working-capital sensitivity. This variability undermines steady internal funding for loans and provisions, increases dependence on external liquidity, and raises the chance of stress in tighter funding environments.
Margin CompressionSustained margin compression cuts the bank's buffer against rising credit costs or funding pressure and limits reinvestment capacity. Lower margins translate into weaker return on equity and constrain capital return or growth initiatives unless supported by sustained revenue expansion or efficiency gains.
