Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Positive Cash GenerationPositive operating and free cash flow provide internal funding capacity and liquidity support. If sustained, this can help the bank absorb credit costs, fund operations and meet obligations despite current earnings pressure.
Improved Leverage And Equity BaseImproved leverage and a meaningful equity base provide some resilience against balance-sheet stress. This support may help the bank manage remediation efforts and credit losses, although capital remains constrained by regulatory requirements.
Strategic Exit From TexasExiting Texas represents a durable geographic and balance-sheet repositioning. Concentrating resources on remaining core markets could simplify operations and management focus, though the long-term benefit depends on execution and retained customer relationships.
Bears Say
Persistent Losses And Revenue ContractionContinued losses and falling revenue weaken internal capital generation and limit the bank’s ability to invest or return capital. Narrower losses versus 2025 are encouraging, but profitability remains negative and requires a durable operating recovery.
Regulatory Capital And Credit Remediation PressureThe consent order imposes heightened oversight, stricter credit controls, problem-asset reduction plans and higher capital thresholds. Falling short of the leverage requirement can constrain growth, increase compliance costs and restrict capital distributions.
Negative Returns And Volatile Cash FlowNegative ROE indicates the enlarged equity base is not currently producing adequate shareholder returns. The sharp cash-flow reversal also signals limited predictability, making sustained profitability and recurring cash generation important for financial stability.
