Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Loan, Deposit And Fee GrowthBroad growth across lending, deposits and fee services supports recurring revenue expansion. Private wealth momentum and strong core deposit gathering also diversify earnings beyond net interest income.
Profitability And Operating LeverageImproving margin performance, record pre-provision earnings and a sub-60% efficiency ratio indicate scalable operations. Positive operating leverage can help sustain earnings growth as revenue expands.
Cash Generation And Balance Sheet StrengthStrong cash conversion provides internal funding capacity and supports resilience through credit or funding cycles. Rising equity and lower leverage further strengthen capital flexibility for selective growth.
Bears Say
Top-line Softness And Margin PressureRecent revenue softness and margin compression show that growth has not been uniformly durable. If weaker volume or pricing persists, operating leverage could reverse and limit earnings expansion.
Funding Cost And Deposit Pricing RiskReliance on higher-cost funding and ongoing deposit pricing pressure can narrow net interest margins. Sustaining growth may therefore require disciplined balance-sheet pricing and continued deposit retention.
SBA Exit And Uneven Lending ExposureThe strategic SBA withdrawal should improve returns over time, but it creates a recurring revenue gap that must be replaced. Declining investor CRE activity also highlights concentration and execution risks in lending growth.

FBIZ Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call presented a strong operational and financial performance: record pretax pre-provision earnings, double-digit revenue and tangible book value growth, improved NIM, positive operating leverage, resilient fee income, and strengthened capital metrics. Management took a strategic step to exit out-of-footprint SBA origination, which reduces a recurring but low-return business and is expected to be accretive over time while freeing capacity to focus on higher-margin niches (asset-based lending, floor plan, private wealth). Near-term headwinds include one-time severance and impairment charges, the loss of historical SBA gain-on-sale revenue (~$500k quarterly), elevated loan payoffs and prepayment fee volatility (which can both help and create variability in margin), and some expense noise. On balance, the strengths and forward-looking strategic moves materially outweigh the short-term issues.View all FBIZ earnings summariesFBIZ Stock 12 Month Forecast
