Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Geoscience BacklogThe 19% backlog increase strengthens revenue visibility and indicates improving demand for Viridien’s Geoscience services. A backlog near historical record levels can support utilization and customer relationships over the next several quarters.
Cash Generation And DeleveragingPositive cash generation alongside materially lower debt improves financial resilience in a cyclical industry. Continued deleveraging can reduce interest burden, expand strategic flexibility and provide a stronger foundation for future investment.
Data Assets And Product TractionHigh DDE margins demonstrate the value of Viridien’s specialized data and digital capabilities, while Accel adoption supports product-market traction. These assets can diversify revenue and improve scalability beyond project-based services.
Bears Say
Revenue And EBITDA ContractionThe sharp first-half decline shows that weaker customer activity is affecting both revenue and operating earnings. Sustained contraction would reduce operating leverage, constrain investment capacity and make the path to durable growth less certain.
Leverage And Low ReturnsAlthough leverage is improving, debt remains material relative to equity and returns are modest. Low ROE limits the company’s financial cushion if profitability weakens, while ongoing debt obligations can constrain capital allocation.
Cyclical Demand And Project DelaysViridien remains exposed to customer exploration budgets, geopolitical disruption and delayed project sanctions. Weak SMO land activity and deferred awards reduce near-term utilization and highlight limited visibility across parts of the pipeline.

Company Description
Viridien
Globally, Viridien (formerly CGG) delivers a comprehensive range of data, products, services, and solutions in Earth science, data science, sensing, and monitoring, with operations spanning North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Asia Pacific region. The company operates through two key segments: Data, Digital & Energy Transition (DDE) and Sensing & Monitoring (SMO). Within the DDE segment, Viridien specializes in geoscience, offering services that include geophysical data processing and imaging, reservoir characterization, and comprehensive consulting. This segment is also responsible for developing, managing, licensing, and providing access to extensive geological and seismic data libraries, complemented by robust data management solutions. Furthermore, it develops and markets seismic data processing software under the Geovation brand and offers expert consulting in geoscience and petroleum engineering. The SMO segment is dedicated to the engineering, design, and manufacture of advanced seismic equipment for land and marine data acquisition, encompassing recording systems, specialized software, and seismic sources. This segment's scope extends to a variety of monitoring solutions—such as those for land, marine, ocean bottom, and boreholes—in addition to critical infrastructure monitoring and defense applications, identified by brands like Sercel, Metrolog, GRC, DeRegt, and Geocomp. VIRDY Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Neutral
The call shows a cautiously constructive tone: management reports clear progress on cash generation, deleveraging and backlog rebuilding (notably in Geoscience), and highlights product traction (Accel) and margin resilience in DDE. However, significant near-term headwinds persist — H1 revenue and EBITDA declines, a sharp drop in SMO land revenue due to Middle East disruption, IFRS timing distortions and limited short-term visibility. Management maintains a conservative cash target ($100m) and focuses on cost discipline and readiness for recovery, expecting stronger market conditions into 2027.View all VIRDY earnings summariesTechnical Analysis
