Q2 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q2 2026
Earnings Call Date:Aug 13, 2026|
% Change Since:

Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed a constructive operating and strategic progress narrative: strong loan growth (H1 +8%), marked expansion in higher-yielding retail/micro segments (micro loans +46% YoY, retail +29% YoY), sustained net interest income momentum (+11.6% YoY; Q2 NII +~15% YoY) and a successful EUR 150m AT1 issuance that improved capital ratios. These positives are balanced against remaining challenges — an elevated cost-income ratio (71.2%), modest overall deposit growth in H1 (2.2%) versus loan growth, declining fee income (–EUR 3m YoY) due to euro introduction and SEPA adoption, and cautious additional provisioning given geopolitical risks. Management provided confidence on sustaining margin improvements and achieving FY targets (12%–15% loan growth; 7% RoE guidance), while acknowledging ongoing macro and tax headwinds.
Company Guidance
Management reiterated 2026 guidance of loan growth of 12–15% in core markets and a 7% RoE for the year (with short‑term headwinds from the expected Ecuador divestment, higher taxes in Ukraine and Romania and lower fee income from Bulgaria’s euro adoption), said it is confident of double‑digit customer deposit growth in H2, and set medium‑term targets to grow the loan book beyond EUR 10bn, lift RoE to ~13–14% and move the cost‑income ratio toward ~57%; the outlook is supported by the May AT1 issuance of EUR 150m (initial coupon 8%, reset in Dec 2031) that increased Tier‑1 by ~2pp pro‑forma. Management pointed to strong H1 momentum underpinning guidance: loans +8% to >EUR8bn, active clients +~27,000 (micro active +~18%, retail active +8%), higher‑yield segments now 49% of loans, net interest income +11.6% YoY (~EUR20m, Q2 NII EUR99m), NIM Q2 3.4% (+18bps QoQ, +6bps YoY), H1 profit EUR38.5m, RoTE H1 7.3%, H1 cost‑income ratio 71.2%; Q2 loss allowances €6.4m (cost of risk 31bps) and management overlays ~€48.8m (~25% of provisions).
Strong Loan Growth and Record Portfolio
Loan portfolio grew 8% in H1 2026, crossing EUR 8.0 billion for the first time. Growth was broad-based with particularly strong contributions from Georgia, Kosovo, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine. Management confirms FY2026 loan growth guidance of 12%–15%.
High-Yielding Segment Expansion
Meaningful shift toward higher-yielding segments: year-on-year growth of 46% in micro enterprise loans, 29% in retail loans and 17% in small enterprise loans. The share of higher-yield segments in total loans increased by 3 percentage points year-on-year to 49%.
Client Acquisition Momentum
Active client base increased by ~27,000 customers in H1, with active micro clients up nearly 18% and retail active clients up 8%. Mobile app rollouts progressed to 7 of 10 banks and digital onboarding is live in 8 banks, supporting acquisition and engagement (e.g., nearly 60% of micro clients onboarded in North Macedonia within two months).
Net Interest Income and Margin Improvement
Net interest income increased 11.6% year-on-year (~EUR 20 million) in H1; quarterly NII reached EUR 99 million in Q2, ~15% higher versus Q2 2025. Net interest margin improved 6 basis points year-on-year and rose 18 basis points quarter-on-quarter to 3.4% in Q2, with management indicating this improvement is structural and expected to be sustained in H2.
Capital Strength and Successful AT1 Issuance
Inaugural Additional Tier 1 issuance of EUR 150 million in May was ~3x oversubscribed, priced below benchmark, initial coupon 8% (reset at 5‑year intervals). Pro forma impact increased Tier 1 ratio by ~2 percentage points; as of June 30 CET1 12.7%, Tier 1 14.7%, total capital 17.8% — all above regulatory requirements.
Operating Income and Profitability Progress
Operating income increased 7% driven mainly by net interest income expansion. Profit for the period was EUR 38.5 million and profit before tax and loan loss provisions increased nearly 6% year-on-year. Return on tangible equity (including AT1 accrual) stood at 7.3% for H1.
Deposit Quality Improvements in Target Segments
Although overall deposit growth was modest, the quality/mix improved: deposits grew 2.2% in H1 with retail deposits +13% YoY and micro-enterprise deposits +37% YoY. Nearly 70% of the >EUR 1.1 billion deposit increase over 12 months came from sight and savings deposits, supporting lower refinancing costs.
Operational and Digital Execution
Continued rollout of mobile-first retail banking and a dedicated app for legal entities for micro/small businesses. Early adoption metrics and positive customer engagement reported; management expects digital rollouts to improve scalability, efficiency and medium-term profitability.
