Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Fee-based, Regulated Cash FlowsA business model built on regulated returns and long-term contracts provides predictable, fee-based cash flows that decouple earnings from short-term commodity swings. This durability supports multi-year capital planning, dividend track record and resilience through commodity cycles.
Large Secured Backlog And Sanctioned ProjectsA multi-decade growth pipeline with a $41B secured backlog and active sanctions gives clear multi-year revenue and EBITDA visibility. This project runway underpins utilization growth, future contracted tolls and long-term asset utilization that can sustain cash flow and returns.
Diversified Growth: Utilities, Gas And RenewablesBroadening into renewables and continued utility rate-base expansion diversifies earnings away from pure liquids exposure. Regulated utility growth and contracted renewables projects create stable, long-duration cash flows and reduce dependence on a single commodity or market segment.
Bears Say
Elevated Leverage And Rising Total DebtMaterially higher debt levels increase interest expense and reduce financial flexibility, making the company more sensitive to rising rates and funding shocks. Elevated leverage constrains the ability to self-fund growth and raises refinancing/credit risk over the medium term.
Weak Cash Conversion And Volatile FCFLower cash conversion and volatile free cash flow reduce the company’s ability to fund capital programs organically and maintain shareholder distributions without incremental financing. Over time this can force higher external financing or slower growth pacing, increasing funding cost exposure.
Permitting, Regulatory And Timing Risk For Major ProjectsRegulatory and producer-driven delays on upstream capacity (e.g., MLO2) can defer cash flows and utilization gains from sanctioned downstream assets. Protracted permitting or policy uncertainty raises execution risk and can compress expected returns and project IRRs over multi-year horizons.

ENB Earnings Call
Q2 2026

Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call presented a strong operational and commercial progress narrative: high utilization, material project progress (Blackcomb commissioning, Houston terminal in service, Line 5 relocation sanctioned), sizable sanctioned capital and a large secured backlog, meaningful gas and renewables momentum, and improved adjusted EBITDA (+$130M y/y). Key financial priorities (equity self-funding, shareholder returns, reaffirmed 2026 guidance) and utility rate-base growth underpin resilience. The primary negatives were manageable near-term items: slight EPS decline from non-cash and financing charges, leverage at 5.1x influenced by FX, headwinds from lower market access contributions and higher interest rates, and timing/permitting uncertainty for larger upstream Mainline decisions (MLO2) driven by policy implementation and commodity/geopolitical volatility. Overall, positives (project sanctions, backlog, EBITDA growth, renewables and gas demand momentum, and utility growth) substantially outweigh the noted lowlights, though execution and permitting timing remain watch points.View all TSE:ENB earnings summariesENB Revenue Breakdown
