Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Improved Leverage And Balance SheetMaterial deleveraging versus 2021–2023 has strengthened financial flexibility. With net debt/EBITDA near 1.5x and debt-to-equity ~0.77x, Chorus can better absorb cyclical airline pressures, fund aircraft monetizations, and pursue buybacks/dividends while retaining headroom for term‑loan paydowns over the medium term.
Strong Cash GenerationOperating cash flow and free cash flow improved markedly (TTM operating cash ~ $165M; FCF ~$122M). Durable cash generation supports ongoing capital allocation: deleveraging, maintenance capex, dividend, and sustained buybacks without needing material external financing, reducing execution risk over several quarters.
Acquisition-driven Diversification (Kadex)Kadex expands aftermarket parts and supply‑chain capability, doubling storage capacity and adding recurring parts revenue. This diversifies income away from pure CPA flying, builds higher‑margin aftermarket streams, and strengthens resilience versus contract step‑downs across the medium term.
Bears Say
Margin Compression And Earnings VolatilityMargins have deteriorated and results swung from a sizable 2024 loss to positive TTM earnings. Persistent margin compression reduces cash conversion and return on equity, making long‑term profitability and reinvestment capacity more sensitive to contract terms, fuel, and maintenance cost swings.
Contractual CPA Step‑downsStructural reductions in CPA economics lower the baseline fixed-margin revenue the business can earn from its core regional flying model. Over months, this subtracts predictable cashflow and forces reliance on offsetting sources (leasing, parts, acquisitions) to maintain profitability, increasing strategic execution risk.
Aircraft Monetization Timing RiskDelays in planned aircraft sales push expected proceeds and gains into later periods, creating timing mismatches for debt paydowns and buybacks. Given aircraft monetization is a material source of near-term cash, delays can make quarterly free cash flow and leverage improvements lumpy and less predictable.
