Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Revenue And EBITDA StrengthStrong revenue and EBITDA performance indicates broad demand and operating scale across Air Canada’s network. Sustained top-line growth, combined with healthy adjusted profitability, can support fleet investment, liquidity and competitive positioning over the next several quarters.
Aeroplan MonetizationThe Aeroplan transaction unlocks substantial value from a strategic loyalty asset without requiring a full disposal. Proceeds are expected to reduce leverage, address debt maturities and support capital returns, improving financial flexibility and strengthening the broader business platform.
Liquidity And Cash GenerationMeaningful liquidity and positive operating and free cash flow provide resilience in a capital-intensive, cyclical airline industry. This financial capacity supports operations, fleet renewal and debt management while giving Air Canada more flexibility to withstand demand or cost volatility.
Bears Say
High Balance-sheet LeverageHigh absolute debt and leverage remain a material constraint despite improved equity and recent deleveraging. In a cyclical airline business, this structure increases refinancing sensitivity, limits financial flexibility and can restrict investment or shareholder returns if earnings weaken.
Margin And Cash-conversion PressureThe sharp reduction in profitability and weaker free-cash-flow conversion indicate that revenue recovery is not translating into earnings as efficiently as in stronger periods. Thin margins leave less protection against operational volatility and make sustained deleveraging more dependent on execution.
Persistent Unit-cost PressureHigher unit costs can absorb the benefit of passenger and network growth, limiting operating leverage even when demand remains strong. Labor, inflation and currency pressures create a continuing challenge for margin sustainability and raise the execution burden on pricing and capacity management.

Company Description
Air Canada
Air Canada functions as a full-service airline, providing an array of flights across Canada, over the U.S. border, and to various international destinations. The company delivers scheduled passenger services through its primary Air Canada brand, along with its Air Canada Vacations and Air Canada Rouge subsidiaries, serving domestic, Canada-U.S. transborder, and global routes from and to Canada. Additionally, it expands its network by utilizing capacity purchase agreements with other regional carriers. As of December 31, 2021, Air Canada maintained a significant fleet: its mainline operations comprised 175 aircraft (97 Boeing and Airbus narrow-body jets, and 78 Boeing and Airbus wide-body planes); the Air Canada Express division operated 123 aircraft (including 50 Mitsubishi regional jets, 48 De Havilland Dash-8 turboprops, and 25 Embraer 175s); and Air Canada Rouge employed 39 aircraft (specifically 14 Airbus A321s, 5 Airbus A320s, and 20 Airbus A319s). Beyond passenger transportation, the company also offers air cargo services on domestic, U.S. transborder, and international routes connecting Canada with markets in Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia. Furthermore, Air Canada is involved in the creation, promotion, and sale of vacation travel packages to popular regions such as the Caribbean, Mexico, the United States, Europe, Central and South America, the South Pacific, Australia, and Asia. It also arranges cruise packages across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean, and manages travel loyalty programs. Established in 1937, Air Canada's corporate headquarters are situated in Saint-Laurent, Canada.

AC Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call highlighted robust top-line performance (record revenues +11% YoY), strong adjusted EBITDA ($719M) and exceptional balance sheet metrics (liquidity $8.9B, net leverage 1.7x), alongside strategic value realization via a $2.5B minority sale of Aeroplan that accelerates deleveraging and shareholder returns. Offsetting these positives are material near-term headwinds from fuel volatility (a $500M–$600M booking/fuel mismatch), higher operating costs (including $388M of excluded charges) and modest ASM growth, which pressure unit costs. On balance, the company demonstrated financial resilience and clear mitigation plans (fuel recapture expected to improve into Q4, sale-and-leaseback/SIB proceeds), so positives meaningfully outweigh the detractors.View all TSE:AC earnings summariesAC Stock 12 Month Forecast
