Q2 2027 Earnings Call Summary
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was strongly constructive, with broad-based growth, improving EBITDA margins, market-share gains, major IPO execution, international pipeline expansion, AI-led productivity initiatives, and reiterated full-year guidance. The principal challenges were market volatility, Middle East exposure at Ascent, muted mark-to-market AUM growth, higher tax effects, elevated computing costs, and upcoming office-related costs. Highlights significantly outweighed the lowlights.Company Guidance
Broad Business-Line Growth and Market Leadership
Management stated that nearly every business line grew despite a challenging macro environment, including mutual funds, issuer solutions, alternatives, international, and pensions. KFin Tech remained the largest registrar and transfer agent in India, servicing over 12.5 crore people in India and approximately 75 lakh outside India.
Revenue and EBITDA Improvement
Revenue from operations increased sequentially by 30% including Ascent and by 10% excluding Ascent. Expenses increased only 3% quarter-on-quarter while revenue increased approximately 13%. EBITDA improved 18.7% sequentially, with management also citing 32% growth versus the same quarter last year and 13.4% year-on-year growth for H1 FY2027.
Strong EBITDA Margin Performance and Guidance
Q2 EBITDA margin was 45.8% excluding Ascent and 40% including Ascent. Management said Q2 demonstrated the targeted consolidated margin level and reiterated guidance for a 40% full-year EBITDA margin, with revenue growth of 18%-20%, EBITDA margins of 40%-45%, and PAT margins of 25%-30%.
PAT, Cash Position, and EPS
PAT touched INR 100 crores for the quarter. Management stated that PAT was up 7.5% year-on-year and also cited 33% growth compared with the same quarter last year. H1 FY2027 PAT growth was approximately 3% year-on-year, cash and cash equivalents were about INR 550 crores after dividend payment, and diluted EPS at the end of H1 was INR 10.12.
Issuer Solutions Expansion and Major IPO Execution
Issuer solutions market share has improved significantly over the past 18 months. KFin Tech completed the activity for the Jio Platforms IPO two alarms ahead of schedule, with investor allotment-status latency below 40 milliseconds. Management said nearly all of the largest IPOs have been orchestrated by KFin Tech by volume and value and expects approximately 20%+ year-on-year issuer-solutions revenue growth.
Issuer Solutions Revenue Visibility
Management said issuer-solutions growth should continue through both folio-based revenue and corporate-action revenue. Corporate actions are predominantly a Q2 phenomenon with some spillover into Q3, while new IPO clients added over the last 12 months are expected to support year-on-year growth in folio-based revenue and corporate actions.
International Client Wins and Pipeline Growth
KFin Tech added 18 international clients that are in transition and expected to go live in the coming Q2, subject to transition timelines. The international pipeline increased to approximately $47 million from roughly $20 million 12 months earlier, with at least six deals valued at more than $4 million-$5 million in total contract value and several opportunities down-selected to the final two.
International Business Growth and Diversification
Management said the legacy international business benefited from successful client transitions going live and mark-to-market gains in Malaysia. KFin Tech won about five deals in the U.S. in the last quarter, including two reasonably larger deals close to $0.5+ million. International business represented 20% of total business, while its top five clients contributed approximately 23%-24% and its largest client contributed around 5%.
Ascent Growth and Margin Improvement
Ascent grew more than 30% despite challenging macro conditions and Middle East exposure. Its EBITDA margin improved from -12% in the same quarter last year to approximately 7.5% last quarter and 8% this quarter. Management expects Ascent to reach double-digit EBITDA margins in the next couple of quarters, approximately 20%+ in the next fiscal year, and to move closer to KFin Tech's overall margins over the following two years.
Pension Business Outpacing the Industry
Pensions grew 42% this year compared with approximately 12%-13% industry growth. In the prior year, KFin Tech grew 36% versus industry growth of about 12%. Management also stated that the pension business had reached break-even approximately three quarters earlier.
AUM and Market-Share Gains
KFin Tech clients' overall AUM grew 15% during the quarter versus 13% for the industry. Overall market share moved beyond 33%, equity market share was nearing 33%, and SIP market share remained close to 37%, with management expecting a 100-basis-point bridge over the next three to five years.
Mutual Fund Yield Stability
Domestic mutual fund yields expanded approximately 2% sequentially. Management attributed the quarter's yield stability and expansion to maintained pricing discipline, positive asset mix, and the growth mix of asset managers; six of the ten fastest-growing AMCs are currently with KFin Tech. Management expects yields to remain largely consistent in the coming quarters.
Value-Added Services Growth
Value-added services revenue reached 7.5% of total revenue, supported mainly by issuer-solutions activities such as eAGMs, e-voting, insider-trading platforms, and other corporate solutions. Management said Q2 typically benefits from annual-general-meeting activity and is targeting a double-digit contribution from value-added solutions within the next three to four quarters.
AI and Platform Transformation
ARYA.ai, described as India's and probably the world's first generative-AI intelligence platform for mutual funds, entered beta and was scheduled for public launch later in October. KFin Tech has deployed approximately 30%-35% of the mutual-fund transformation use cases, plans to go live with issuer-solutions, pensions, and wealth platforms within three months, and expects nearly all transformational platforms to be rolled out by the end of Q4 FY2027.
Productivity and Cost Optimization
Management attributed part of the margin expansion to large-scale RPA and AI-native solutions, controlled expenses, and productivity initiatives. Headcount decreased to some extent while the company used the opportunity to scale faster-growing businesses. Rationalization of overlapping Ascent and KFin functions, including finance, HR, technology, and certain operations, was stated to be complete.
Lower Revenue Concentration Target
Mutual funds represented just under 52% of revenue, and management expects this to reach 50% within the next two to three quarters. KFin Tech is also targeting concentration of no single client above 2.5%-3% within approximately six quarters, while the largest Indian client currently contributes around 5.5%-6%.
Healthy Outlook Despite Market Volatility
Management maintained its earnings estimates and stated that it has sufficient buffers for the tactical market correction of the last 10 days. The company expects to preserve its margin commitments and remains confident in its 18%-20% revenue-growth and 40%-45% EBITDA-margin ranges.
