Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Cash GenerationStrong operating and free cash flow gives HP internal funding for maintenance, debt reduction, technology investment and dividends. Although cyclical, this cash generation improves resilience and supports capital allocation through changing drilling conditions.
Conservative Balance SheetVery low reported leverage limits financing risk and preserves flexibility when drilling activity weakens. Early debt repayment and plans to retire additional obligations could further reduce interest burden and strengthen HP's ability to withstand industry cycles.
Technology And International ExpansionGeothermal growth and expansion in Argentina broaden HP beyond its established U.S. land-rig base. FlexRobotics and drilling-performance capabilities may improve differentiation, utilization and customer value, supporting more diverse and durable revenue opportunities.
Bears Say
Revenue And Profitability DeteriorationThe shift from strong 2023–2024 margins to TTM losses shows that earnings remain highly sensitive to the drilling cycle. Continued weak profitability could constrain reinvestment and reduce the reliability of shareholder returns despite solid cash flow.
Volatile Cash Flow SustainabilityRecent cash generation is encouraging, but its historical volatility indicates that HP's funding capacity depends heavily on rig utilization, dayrates and customer activity. A downturn could quickly reduce cash available for debt repayment, dividends and fleet investment.
Geopolitical And International Execution RiskOperational exposure to Iraq, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia creates execution and utilization risk beyond normal commodity cycles. Prolonged conflict or delayed reactivations could reduce international revenue, increase uncertainty and make consolidated margins less predictable.

0J4G Earnings Call
Q3 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call presented multiple strong operational and financial wins — higher revenue (+11% sequential), beat on adjusted EBITDA ($236M), robust free cash flow ($98M), notable NAS margin expansion and rig reactivations, offshore outperformance, and accelerating momentum in Argentina and geothermal. Management also laid out a concrete deleveraging and cost-reduction plan (targeting 1.0x net debt/EBITDA, $40M annual corporate cost savings, and $160M+ asset-sale proceeds). Offsetting these positives are continuing geopolitical disruptions in the Middle East that have delayed some reactivations, lumpy performance bonus timing, and the fact that reported EPS included a material one-time gain (adjusted EPS would be a loss). On balance, the highlights and forward-looking initiatives outweigh the lowlights, though some execution and geopolitical risks remain.View all GB:0J4G earnings summaries0J4G Stock 12 Month Forecast
