Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Network Demand And Revenue StrengthBroad-based passenger, premium, corporate and cargo growth indicates strong network relevance and customer demand. The industry-leading load factor and measured capacity management support revenue quality and provide a durable base for earnings recovery.
Aeroplan Monetization And DeleveragingThe transaction converts part of Aeroplan’s strategic value into capital without relinquishing control of the loyalty platform. Applying proceeds to debt reduces refinancing pressure and strengthens financial flexibility over the medium term.
Strong Liquidity And Positive Cash GenerationSubstantial liquidity and positive operating and free cash flow give Air Canada capacity to fund operations, fleet investment and maturities. Net leverage below management’s 2x target also provides resilience through normal airline cyclicality.
Bears Say
High Structural LeverageDespite improving equity and planned Aeroplan-funded debt repayment, absolute debt remains high relative to the equity base. This limits flexibility and leaves the company sensitive to demand downturns, refinancing conditions and prolonged operating disruption.
Margin And Unit-cost PressureHigher labor, inflation and currency-related costs can outpace fare increases and weaken earnings conversion. Thin current margins leave limited cushion if cost inflation persists, making profitability more volatile even with solid demand.
Free Cash Flow Execution RiskPlanned cash returns and FCF depend partly on completing asset transactions rather than solely on recurring operating cash generation. High fleet investment and delivery timing risk could therefore constrain deleveraging and shareholder returns.

Company Description
Air Canada
Air Canada functions as a full-service airline, providing an array of flights across Canada, over the U.S. border, and to various international destinations. The company delivers scheduled passenger services through its primary Air Canada brand, along with its Air Canada Vacations and Air Canada Rouge subsidiaries, serving domestic, Canada-U.S. transborder, and global routes from and to Canada. Additionally, it expands its network by utilizing capacity purchase agreements with other regional carriers. As of December 31, 2021, Air Canada maintained a significant fleet: its mainline operations comprised 175 aircraft (97 Boeing and Airbus narrow-body jets, and 78 Boeing and Airbus wide-body planes); the Air Canada Express division operated 123 aircraft (including 50 Mitsubishi regional jets, 48 De Havilland Dash-8 turboprops, and 25 Embraer 175s); and Air Canada Rouge employed 39 aircraft (specifically 14 Airbus A321s, 5 Airbus A320s, and 20 Airbus A319s). Beyond passenger transportation, the company also offers air cargo services on domestic, U.S. transborder, and international routes connecting Canada with markets in Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia. Furthermore, Air Canada is involved in the creation, promotion, and sale of vacation travel packages to popular regions such as the Caribbean, Mexico, the United States, Europe, Central and South America, the South Pacific, Australia, and Asia. It also arranges cruise packages across North America, Europe, and the Caribbean, and manages travel loyalty programs. Established in 1937, Air Canada's corporate headquarters are situated in Saint-Laurent, Canada.

ACDVF Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call highlighted robust top-line performance (record revenues +11% YoY), strong adjusted EBITDA ($719M) and exceptional balance sheet metrics (liquidity $8.9B, net leverage 1.7x), alongside strategic value realization via a $2.5B minority sale of Aeroplan that accelerates deleveraging and shareholder returns. Offsetting these positives are material near-term headwinds from fuel volatility (a $500M–$600M booking/fuel mismatch), higher operating costs (including $388M of excluded charges) and modest ASM growth, which pressure unit costs. On balance, the company demonstrated financial resilience and clear mitigation plans (fuel recapture expected to improve into Q4, sale-and-leaseback/SIB proceeds), so positives meaningfully outweigh the detractors.View all ACDVF earnings summariesACDVF Stock 12 Month Forecast
