Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Cash GenerationConsistent absolute cash generation (TTM OCF ~3.9B and FCF ~1.24B) provides durable liquidity to operate routes, invest in fleet and technology, and service obligations. Sustained cash flow supports strategic flexibility even in a cyclical industry.
Normalized ProfitabilityPost‑pandemic normalization to positive margins and stable revenue (~$23B TTM) shows the airline has restored core earnings capacity. Positive EBITDA margin indicates ongoing operating leverage at scale, underpinning long‑term viability across market cycles.
Diversified Revenue ModelMultiple durable revenue pillars—scheduled passenger services, cargo operations and a loyalty program—reduce reliance on any single demand source. This mix helps stabilize revenue across cycles and provides ancillary margins and commercial partnership opportunities.
Bears Say
High LeverageElevated leverage (debt-to-equity ~4.5x) constrains balance sheet flexibility, raises interest and refinancing risk, and limits capacity to absorb demand shocks. In a cyclical capital‑intensive industry this materially increases financial vulnerability over months to years.
Weakened Earnings PowerA sharp decline from 2023 peak margins to current modest net margins signals weaker unit economics or higher cost intensity. Persistently lower profitability reduces internal funding for growth and makes returns more sensitive to fuel, labor and capacity pressures.
Cash Conversion VolatilityLow free cash flow conversion (~20% of net income) and historic swings in operating cash imply working capital and capex volatility. This undermines reliable debt reduction and reinvestment, prolonging leverage cleanup and exposing the firm to funding stress in downturns.
