The European Court of Justice, Europe’s top court, has sided with Amazon in a case in which the company was accused by the European Commission of illegal tax benefits, CNBC’s Arjun Kharpal reports. Amazon was ordered by the European Commission to pay back about $270M to Luxembourg in 2017. The ECJ, in its ruling, said that the European Commission had “not established” that a tax agreement between Amazon and Luxembourg was “a state aid that was incompatible with the internal market.” Amazon said in a statement that it “welcomes” the Court’s ruling, which “confirms that Amazon followed all applicable laws and received no special treatment.”
