Lionsgate’s (LGF.B) “John Wick: Chapter 4” opened to a huge $73.5M domestically from 3,855 locations. Overseas, the fourth installment in the franchise earned $64M from 71 markets for a global cume of $137.5M. The movie, which stars Keanu Reeves as the expert assassin nicknamed Baba Yaga, received an A CinemaScore from audiences.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Warner Bros. (WBD) “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” fell to number 2 with $9.7M in its second outing. Behind it was Paramount’s (PARA) “Scream VI” with another $8.4M for a domestic total of $90.4M and $139.3M worldwide. MGM (AMZN) and Michael B. Jordan’s “Creed III” placed number 4 with $8.36M for a domestic tally of $140.9M. Rounding out the top five, Sony’s (SONY) “65” grossed an estimated $3.4M for a domestic cume of $27.9M.
