Apple has informed India that its local production goals will be hit if New Delhi follows the EU and mandates that existing iPhones have universal charging ports, Reuters’ Aditya Kalra and Munsif Vengattil report, citing a government document. India is seeking to implement an EU rule that will require smartphones to have a universal USB-C charging port, and has been in discussions with manufacturers about introducing the requirement in the South Asian country by June 2025, the authors note.
