Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Free Cash Flow GenerationVery strong TTM operating cash flow (~€7.8B) and free cash flow (~€5.9B; ~76% of net income) creates durable internal funding. That supports debt reduction, long-term service capability, reinvestment in grid and turbine businesses, and less reliance on external capital over cycles.
Improved Profitability And RevenueMaterial margin recovery and elevated revenue (TTM ~€40.1B; gross ~18.8%, operating ~8.5%, net ~5.5%) indicate restored earnings power. Sustained margins improve ability to fund service contracts, R&D and balance sheet repairs, translating into more predictable long-term cash generation.
Stronger Balance SheetReduced leverage (debt/equity ~0.35) and rebuilt equity (~€10.8B) provide financial flexibility for large, multi-year energy projects. A healthier capital structure supports bidding for grid and renewable contracts and cushions against cyclical downturns in capital-intensive segments.
Bears Say
Historical Volatility / Prior LossesA recent history that includes a deep loss in 2023 highlights execution and cyclical vulnerability. Such volatility makes multi-period forecasting and consistent returns less certain, raising the bar for sustainable operational improvements and reliable investor outcomes.
Cyclicality Of Cash FlowAlthough current cash generation is strong, cash flow has shown meaningful cycle-driven swings. This variability can constrain capital allocation in downturns, complicate long-term service contract economics, and increase reliance on timing of large project receipts for funding.
Project Execution SensitivityA large asset-heavy business with big equipment and grid projects is sensitive to schedule, cost and margin execution. Missed milestones or cost overruns on major projects can materially erode margins and cash flow, making performance dependent on sustained operational excellence.

SMEGF Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call reported a strong operational quarter with record orders, backlog expansion, margin improvement and exceptional free cash flow supported by broad demand across Gas Services and Grid Technologies. Significant progress at Siemens Gamesa and strategic investments (U.S. expansion, European capacity builds) and credit upgrades underpin a constructive outlook. Key cautions include reliance on reservation fees and timing effects behind cash flow, supply‑chain pressure and longer lead times, a still‑negative cash profile at Siemens Gamesa, and FX headwinds. On balance, the positive developments and scale of improvements outweigh the challenges, though several items are non‑recurring or dependent on execution.View all SMEGF earnings summariesSMEGF Stock 12 Month Forecast
