Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 27, 2026|
% Change Since:

Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was predominantly positive. Polaris reported broad-based sales growth, continued ORV share gains, improved operational margins, stronger cash generation, lower leverage, healthy dealer inventory and a third increase to full-year guidance. The main challenges were elevated commodity, logistics and tariff costs, softness in recreational and pontoon retail, weaker international markets and continued macroeconomic uncertainty. Overall, the number and significance of the positive developments outweighed the stated headwinds.
Company Guidance
Polaris raised full year sales guidance to $7.55 billion to $7.6 billion, representing growth of approximately 6% and approximately 11% organic sales growth at the midpoint excluding the sale of Indian Motorcycle; fourth quarter organic sales are expected to be roughly flat, with Q4 retail expected to be flattish. Full year adjusted EBITDA margin is expected to increase 270 to 275 basis points, or approximately 165 to 170 basis points on an operational basis excluding tariff refunds, versus prior outlook of 145 to 170 basis points, with commodity and logistics costs expected to be $70 million higher than last year; fourth quarter adjusted EBITDA is expected to increase by more than 100 basis points. Full year adjusted EPS guidance increased to $3.50 to $3.60, including $1.90 from tariff refunds, while operational adjusted EPS is expected to be $2.40 to $2.50, and fourth quarter adjusted EPS is expected to be $0.32 to $0.42. Tariffs are expected to be $215 million this year, the Indian Motorcycle separation remains on track to be accretive by $50 million to adjusted EBITDA, year end working capital is expected to be negative 2% of sales, and net leverage is expected to be below 2x. Retail, previously expected to be flat year over year, is now expected to grow low single digits. No formal 2027 guidance was provided, but the company intends to manage net leverage within its 1x to 2x target range, expects manufacturing facilities to run at roughly 70% of capacity, expects 9% of material cost of goods sold originating from China by year end versus approximately 14% at the beginning of the year, and targets below 5% by year end 2027.
Strong Third-Quarter Sales Growth
Reported sales increased 11% year over year, or 17% excluding Indian Motorcycle from Q3 2025. Growth was driven by high single-digit ORV growth, double-digit PG&A growth, high double-digit growth in commercial, government and defense and marine, and more than 100% growth in seasonal.
Broad-Based Business Drivers
Management attributed growth to growing end markets and ORV share gains, strong demand from large capital projects such as data centers, increased government and defense spending across the U.S., Canada and NATO, robust ridership supporting parts and accessory sales, innovation across ORV and marine, and healthy dealer inventory that enabled early snowmobile shipments.
Six Consecutive Quarters of ORV Share Gains
Polaris gained ORV share for the sixth consecutive quarter. North American ORV retail increased 2% despite a comparison against 9% growth in Q3 2025, and the company achieved its highest third-quarter ORV share since Q3 2019.
Utility Portfolio Strength
Utility products represented approximately 60% of powersports sales and more than 50% of powersports sales in the quarter. The Ranger 500 helped Polaris's midsized Ranger portfolio gain more than 10 points of segment share, Ranger cab units gained multiple points of share and represented more than 50% of Ranger sales, and Polaris utility cab units have grown more than 70% since 2023.
Commercial, Government and Defense Momentum
Commercial, government and defense demand remained strong, supported by data-center and infrastructure construction and increased defense spending across the U.S., Canada and NATO. Management said these businesses have a different profile through the cycle because customers purchase based on government budgets and project schedules rather than consumer confidence.
Margin and Earnings Improvement
Adjusted EBITDA margin improved 118 basis points to 8.8%. Excluding $10 million of tariff refunds and related interest, operational adjusted EBITDA margin increased approximately 85 basis points. Operational adjusted EPS was $0.95 versus $0.41 a year ago, while reported adjusted EPS was $1.08 including the tariff refunds.
Full-Year Guidance Raised for the Third Time
Operational adjusted EPS guidance was raised to $2.40-$2.50 from $2.05-$2.15. Full-year sales guidance was raised to $7.55 billion-$7.60 billion, representing approximately 6% growth and approximately 11% organic sales growth at the midpoint excluding Indian Motorcycle. Adjusted EBITDA margin is now expected to increase 270-275 basis points, with operational margin expansion of approximately 165-170 basis points excluding tariff refunds.
Healthy Dealer Inventory and Retail Execution
Dealer inventory was up 3% year over year, while dealer DSOs were slightly above 100 days and remained well below historic levels. Management said snowmobile dealer inventory entered the season in the best position in years, and expects dealer inventory to end the year in a healthy position.
New Product Launches and Innovation Pipeline
Polaris is shipping three new vehicles in the fourth quarter: the Polaris Expedition with pneumatics, the RZR Pro R Boost with 275 horsepower and 223 pound-feet of torque, and the Sportsman 500 value-tier ATV. Management also cited a strong pipeline of innovative products planned for the next three to four years and encouraging early dealer and customer feedback.
Parts, Accessories and Ridership Growth
Total PG&A sales increased 12%, driven by parts and oil, while powersports PG&A sales increased 19%, driven by factory-installed accessories and oil sales. Tracked vehicle usage was up in the low to mid single digits, building on ridership above pre-COVID levels, and the company also saw increased accessory activity.
Marine Revenue and Mix Improvement
Marine sales increased 29%, driven by a richer pontoon mix led by the Bennington QS and Godfrey Sanpan premium lines. Marine gross margin increased 43 basis points year over year due to favorable mix and operational efficiencies, and management expects premium mix to remain a positive contributor through the selling season.
Strong Cash Generation and Debt Reduction
Third-quarter operating cash flow was $382 million as seasonal working capital unwound. Polaris reduced total debt by $320 million, primarily by repaying borrowings under its revolving credit facility, and reduced net leverage from 3.4x at the beginning of the year to 2.0x at the end of the third quarter. The company expects year-end net leverage below 2x.
Working Capital and Supply-Chain Progress
Year-end working capital is now expected to be negative 2% of sales, a 100 basis point improvement versus prior expectations. Management expects further working-capital reductions next year as the company continues localizing its supply chain in North America.
Operational Efficiency and Manufacturing Improvement
Volume, net price and operational efficiencies supported margin improvement. The Huntsville lean line ramped faster than expected, enabling earlier Ranger shipments and approximately $0.30 of adjusted EPS to shift from Q4 into Q3. Manufacturing facilities are operating at roughly 70% of capacity, and management said first-pass vehicle yield reached some of the highest levels the company has seen.
Tariff Mitigation Progress
Polaris expects material cost of goods sold originating from China to decline to 9% by year end from approximately 14% at the beginning of the year, with a goal of reducing that figure below 5% by year-end 2027. Management said the company is ahead of its internal tariff-mitigation targets.
Indian Motorcycle Separation on Track
The Indian Motorcycle separation remains on track to be accretive by $50 million to adjusted EBITDA, with the benefit weighted more toward the back half of 2026 and into January 2027 due to the seasonality of motorcycle sales.
Improved Retail Outlook
The company raised its expectation for the overall retail environment from flat year over year to low single-digit growth. October retail was tracking in line with expectations, described as low single-digit growth, and management expressed confidence in a strong ending to the year.
Longer-Term Margin and Balance-Sheet Opportunity
Management said the company is on a good path toward its mid-cycle targets and described an opportunity to reach the mid-teens EBITDA margin range over time. Polaris also intends to manage net leverage within its 1x-2x target range and use the resulting flexibility to enhance shareholder returns.
