Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Free Cash Flow GenerationConsistent, large operating and free cash flows provide durable financial flexibility to fund sustaining/growth capex, pay down debt, and support the $750M buyback and inaugural dividend without relying on external markets. Strong cash conversion also cushions the business against commodity downturns and funds exploration.
Material Profitability And Revenue GrowthThe company’s step-change to solid scale and robust margins reflects operating leverage from recent acquisitions and higher production. Sustained higher margins and revenue give lasting capacity to invest in reserves, lower leverage, and absorb commodity price cycles versus prior loss-making years.
Transformational M&A, Production Growth & ReturnsClear evidence of successful integration and scale: management’s guidance and capital-return policy indicate the M&A strategy materially boosts production, cash flow and flexibility. A credible buyback/dividend framework signals confidence in sustainable cash generation and disciplined capital allocation.
Bears Say
Commodity Cyclicality And Cash-flow VolatilityCoeur’s earnings and cash flows have swung materially across commodity cycles; historical negative free cash flow and years of losses show susceptibility to price and operational swings. This structural cyclicality can reverse margins and cash generation quickly, stressing financing and investment plans.
Balance-sheet Reporting InconsistenciesInconsistent capital‑structure metrics and abrupt equity increases reduce transparency for assessing leverage and solvency. For investors and lenders this makes forecasting covenant headroom and true leverage trends harder, raising the risk that balance‑sheet shifts could surprise stakeholders during stress periods.
Large Deferred Tax Liability From Purchase AccountingA multi‑billion deferred tax liability is a long‑running accounting construct that compresses reported equity metrics and will unwind slowly over roughly a decade. While largely non‑cash now, it can distort reported returns, complicate comparability and may affect future tax cash flows or planning flexibility.

Company Description
Coeur Mining
Coeur Mining, Inc. is a company primarily focused on the exploration and development of precious metal deposits across North America, with operations spanning the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The company's key activities involve discovering and extracting resources such as gold, silver, zinc, and lead. Coeur Mining maintains a 100% ownership stake in several significant mining assets. These include the Palmarejo gold and silver mine in Chihuahua, Northern Mexico, which encompasses approximately 67,296 net acres. In northwestern Nevada, the Rochester silver and gold mine covers about 43,441 net acres. The Kensington gold mine, situated north of Juneau, Alaska, spans 3,972 net acres. Additionally, the Wharf gold mine occupies roughly 3,243 net acres in the northern Black Hills of western South Dakota, and the Silvertip silver-zinc-lead mine in northern British Columbia, Canada, extends over 97,298 net acres. Beyond these fully-owned sites, Coeur Mining also holds interests in the Crown and Sterling projects located in southern Nevada, as well as the La Preciosa project in Mexico. The concentrates produced from its operations are then marketed and sold to various third-party customers and smelters through established off-take agreements. Historically, the company was known as Coeur d'Alene Mines Corporation before rebranding to Coeur Mining, Inc. in May 2013. Established in 1928, its corporate headquarters are located in Chicago, Illinois.
