Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was strongly positive overall. América Móvil reported solid revenue, EBITDA, customer, cash-flow, deleveraging, and regional growth, while highlighting postpaid, broadband, 5G, corporate, AI-efficiency, and M&A opportunities. The main challenges were prepaid disconnections and registration effects, competitive and promotional pressure, uncertainty over pricing, foreign-exchange financing losses, and pending regulatory approvals.Company Guidance
Strong Postpaid and Fixed-Broadband Customer Growth
The company added 3.1 million postpaid subscribers in the third quarter, roughly in line with the average of the prior four quarters. It also connected 390 thousand new broadband accesses, while pay TV net additions totaled 50 thousand units. Mobile postpaid and fixed broadband accesses increased 8.9% and 5.6%, respectively, year over year.
Revenue and EBITDA Growth with Margin Expansion
Third-quarter revenue totaled MXN 251 billion, an increase of 7.6% year over year. EBITDA reached a 40.8% margin, up 0.5 percentage points from the year-earlier quarter. At constant exchange rates, service revenue increased 5.3% and EBITDA increased 6.7%, with EBITDA continuing to grow faster than service revenue.
Mobile Service Revenue and Postpaid Momentum
Mobile service revenue increased 6.3% year over year, while mobile postpaid service revenue rose 7.5% year over year at constant exchange rates. Postpaid revenue growth accelerated in Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia to 8%, 8.5%, and 12%, respectively; growth in Chile and Peru also increased to 11.5% and 7.5%.
Operating Profit and Net Income Growth
Operating profit totaled ARS 57 billion, up 13.9% from the year-earlier quarter and outpacing EBITDA growth, while depreciation and amortization charges rose only 3%. Net profit was MXN 24 million in the quarter, 7% higher than in the year-earlier quarter, bringing year-to-date net income to 72 billion.
Improved Cash Flow, Deleveraging, and Shareholder Returns
Capital expenditures totaled 676 billion pesos in the first nine months and were fully funded by cash flow. Cash flow enabled the company to reduce net debt, in cash-flow terms, by MXN 34 billion and distribute MXN 27 billion through share buybacks and dividends. Labor obligations declined by MXN 15 billion in the quarter, and free cash flow was 41% higher than in 2025, following a 47% increase in 2025 versus the prior year.
Lower Net Leverage
At the end of the quarter, net debt stood at MXN 400 billion excluding leases, equivalent to 1.21x net debt to EBITDA after leases, down from 1.51x at the end of 2025.
Mexican Broadband Revenue and Fiber Progress
Mexican broadband revenue growth was stronger despite lower net additions because the company cleaned up its customer base by removing customers who were not consuming or paying. The company increased speeds across the customer base, focused on churn and upselling, and reported that 94% of customers were already connected with fiber.
Mexican Postpaid Upselling and 5G Adoption
In Mexico, half of the customers renewing plans at customer care centers were moving to a better plan, supporting higher ARPU. The company also cited migration from prepaid to postpaid and increased usage from 4G to 5G. Mexican postpaid ARPU growth was described as the highest in at least three years, with continuous acceleration.
Corporate and B2B Growth
Corporate customers were contributing to growth in fixed services, including data centers, cloud, and related services, as well as in mobile. The company said corporate activity had been good during the quarter.
Argentina Growth and Network Positioning
Management described Argentina as a very good quarter, supported by long-term investment, a strong 5G network, broadband, distribution, corporate services, and a data center. The company said the improving economy was benefiting its business and that it was growing in mobile, broadband, 5G, and corporate services.
Colombia Growth Supported by Network and Upselling
Colombia delivered another very strong quarter. Management cited good customer retention, significant upselling, broad coverage, and the country's largest 5G network, which the company began deploying from the start of the spectrum rollout.
Central America and Ecuador Performance
Ecuador was growing well through a quad-play strategy, expanding fiber, broadband, TV, mobile, and corporate services. Central America reported service revenue growth of 11.4% and EBITDA growth of 16.1% in the quarter, with growth across all countries, increased fixed and 5G activity, and stable currencies.
AI-Enabled Efficiency Initiatives
The company said it was improving cost and operating efficiency through AI platforms focused on customer understanding, call-center interactions, network maintenance, and faster resolution of broadband and customer issues. Management described this as part of a three-year plan to improve these areas.
Desktop Acquisition and Commercial Synergy Opportunity
The company took Desktop on October 1 and said it has approximately 4.8 million home passes, with more than half outside the company's existing greenfield footprint. Management expects opportunities to sell additional products to Desktop customers, sell mobile services to fiber customers, and offer fiber to mobile customers where the company lacks a fiber footprint.
Capital Allocation Framework and M&A Status
Management reiterated a leverage framework of 1.2x to 1.5x intended to accommodate share buybacks, distributions, and M&A. The Desktop transaction is expected to account for most of the announced BRL 4 billion amount in the last quarter, although the tender offer had not yet been completed. The company also has an acquisition in Peru awaiting regulatory approval and said it has no other M&A in the pipeline.
CapEx Plan Remains Stable
The company maintained a CapEx expectation of approximately $7 billion, with a range of 5% plus or 5% less for the current year, and expected a similar level for next year. Management said currency movements resulted in lower CapEx in pesos and that no major CapEx changes were planned.
NuCel Continuing to Grow
NuCel was described as doing well, with a good customer base and continued growth as an MVNO. Under its agreement with Claro, NuCel can set its prices within the agreement.
