Q2 2027 Earnings Call Summary
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was predominantly positive on the India commercialization project, with a smaller facility expected to reduce capital requirements, positive lender discussions, over 50% of capacity covered by contracts or commitments, declining operating expenses and continued investor interest. However, construction remains conditional on securing financing, available liquidity was $1.9 million, and the final project cost and equity requirement were not yet known.Company Guidance
India Facility Resized to Reduce Capital Requirements
The first India facility was resized from 70 thousand kilotons per annum to 45 thousand kilotons per annum. Management said the change will significantly lower capital costs, debt and equity financing needs, and allow for a faster construction timeline. If funding is secured, construction is expected to begin in Q1 calendar 2027 and commercial production is expected by the end of calendar 2028.
Attractive Facility Economics and Low-Cost Technology
Management said the smaller facility is expected to provide attractive economic returns because Loop's low-temperature, no-pressure technology produces virgin-quality PET resin and polyester fiber at very low operating costs. The facility will also benefit from India's low-cost environment and plentiful textile waste.
Expansion Potential Across Two Facilities
The 45 thousand-ton facility remains the first of two planned facilities on the same site. Management said the second facility could be increased to 125 thousand tons, supported by enough feedstock for total capacity of at least 170 thousand tons in the area, so the combined output of the two facilities would remain the same.
Positive Progress on Indian Project Debt Financing
Loop is engaged in positive discussions with a major Indian bank regarding project debt. The bank has started its technical due diligence study, a team visited Loop's Montreal facility, and Loop successfully completed the technology assessment portion of the study for use in the lender's loan documentation. Management said the facility resizing was extremely well received by debt lenders because it reduces the amount of debt required.
Strategic Partner Commitment
Management said strategic partners in India and Europe remain committed to their relationships with Loop and to the success of the company's commercialization projects in their respective geographic areas.
Meaningful Reduction in Operating Expenses
Cash operating expenses were $1.6 million for the quarter, a year-over-year reduction of $800 thousand. Management said the run rate continued to decline into the third quarter, reflecting targeted reductions in personnel, insurance and other operating expenses, as well as the waiver of cash compensation by outside directors.
Substantial Customer Commitments for the Resized Facility
Management said signed contracts, signed letters of intent and other commitments cover over 50% of the 45 thousand-ton facility. Exact volumes for all contracts were not disclosed.
Project Readiness and Demand Support
Management said the key elements of the India project are in place, including an experienced joint venture partner, secured land, advanced engineering designs, reliable feedstock sourcing and strong customer demand. Signed contracts and letters of intent with customers were also described as sufficient to meet debt lenders' commitment requirements.
Flexible Equity Requirement and Existing Contribution
Management said banks appear likely to finance 70% of the project, with the remaining 30% funded through equity split evenly between Loop and Ester. Loop's share would therefore represent about 15% of total project cost. Management also said Loop has already contributed approximately $3 million to $5 million to the joint venture.
Investor Interest in Funding the Project
The special committee and its advisers are evaluating equity, debt and nondilutive financing alternatives. Management said there has been significant interest from investors and that the company is flexible regarding straight equity or a convertible instrument.
Continued Confidence in Long-Term Value Creation
Despite the current low stock price and the ongoing capital-raising effort, management, the board and partners said they continue to strongly believe in Loop's long-term value creation potential based on its technology, commercialization projects in India and Europe, and demand from apparel and global consumer packaging brands and consumers for competitively priced high-quality recycled products.
