Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Cash GenerationSustained, large free cash flow provides durable funding for dividends, debt service, and the multi-year capex program without relying on equity issuance. High cash conversion (FCF ~75% of net income TTM) supports flexibility through commodity cycles and long-term project funding.
Integrated Value Chain & High MarginsVertical integration (mining, smelting, refining) lets the firm capture value across stages, sustaining exceptionally high margins versus peers. This structural advantage improves resilience to mid-cycle price moves and supports long-run profitability and cash generation.
Funded Growth Pipeline (Tía María And Capex)Material project progress with dedicated long-term financing reduces execution funding risk and shows credible scaling plans. A funded, staged capex program underpins medium-term production growth targets and supports the company's strategic pathway to >1Mt+ production.
Bears Say
Commodity Price SensitivityRevenue, margins and cash flow remain highly exposed to copper and by-product prices. Prolonged price weakness would materially reduce free cash flow and strain funding of large capex plans, making long-term returns and leverage targets contingent on commodity cycles.
Ore Grade & Production DeclinesDeclining ore grades and recoveries in key Peruvian mines reduce output and raise unit costs over time unless offset by new projects. Persistent grade erosion can undermine planned volume growth, compress margins, and delay the payback on high capital projects.
Political, Regulatory And Social Risks In PeruPolicy shifts, fiscal proposal risks, and local social tensions can delay permits, alter royalties or taxation, and raise compliance costs. For a company with concentrated Peruvian investments and large planned capex, regulatory uncertainty increases execution risk and potential sovereign-related cash flow volatility.
