Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Scale & Fee-Based AUM GrowthA $1.8T fee-bearing asset base provides durable, recurring revenue from advisory and management fees. Large scale supports cross-selling across wealth, asset management and bank businesses, smoothing cyclicality and enabling margin leverage as fixed costs are spread over growing AUM.
High ROE & Improving LeverageExceptionally high ROE combined with falling leverage signals efficient capital use and a stronger balance sheet. This enhances financial flexibility for buybacks, investments and lending growth, while lower leverage reduces solvency risk and supports durable shareholder returns.
Tech Adoption Boosts Advisor ProductivityWidespread AI and tooling adoption is a structural productivity catalyst: it increases advisor capacity, reduces back-office time and can raise revenue per advisor sustainably. Over time this supports margin expansion, client retention and scalable growth without linear headcount increases.
Bears Say
Volatile Cash ConversionRecent weaker cash conversion reduces predictability of free cash available for buybacks, dividends and reinvestment. Persistent volatility means capital returns and investment pacing may be harder to sustain in downturns, increasing governance and refinancing sensitivity.
Asset Management Net OutflowsOngoing net outflows erode the fee revenue base and make earnings more cyclical. Structural distribution headwinds require margin-dilutive spending or product repositioning to stabilize AUM, and prolonged outflows could compress long-term management fees and performance-related income.
Comerica-Related Adviser ExitsLosing ~$19B of client assets is a material, structural hit to inorganic growth and fee generation. Replacing those assets requires successful recruiting/onboarding or costly incentives, which may pressure margins and slow AUM-driven revenue expansion over the medium term.

Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call emphasized strong core operating performance across revenue, earnings, ROE, AUM growth, adviser productivity and capital returns, driven by fee, transactional and spread-based businesses and accelerated by investments in technology and AI. The primary negatives were inorganic flow headwinds (notably the accelerated Comerica exits), continued net outflows in asset management channels, elevated third-party cash balances, and an aggressive recruiting market that could lead to uneconomic deals if pursued. On balance, the strengths in financial performance, margins, capital returns and productivity gains outweigh the near-term flow and competitive challenges.View all GB:0HF6 earnings summaries0HF6 Stock 12 Month Forecast
