Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 28, 2026|% Change Since:2.12%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was predominantly positive. FEMSA reported strong consolidated growth, an 81% increase in net income, improving OXXO México traffic and market share, solid Coca-Cola FEMSA performance, rapid Bara expansion, and continued shareholder returns. These positives were partly offset by margin contraction, store-pruning impacts, weaker European and health profitability, Colombia credit-risk provisions, labor-cost pressure, OXXO Brasil losses, a soft Mexican consumer environment, and more demanding comparisons. Management remained confident in its strategy while maintaining a cautious outlook for the consumer environment and expansion timing.

Company Guidance

Management remains committed to opening 1,000 net new stores for the foreseeable future in OXXO Mexico, with Juan Fonseca framing 1,000 stores from a base of basically 25,000 stores as 4% growth in net new stores; Brazil is expected to expand about a store a week or more, maybe 70 stores next year, with growth in the high single digits and possibly able to crack 10%, Colombia is planned to be in the double digits, and Bara is expected to be in the double digits and probably north of 30%, with the company planning to open more stores next year than this year and probably over-deliver on a store a day. OXXO Mexico’s annual target remains at the net 1,000 store level for the next year and beyond, while Texas is expected to have less than a single-digit expansion for next year, with investments north of $5 million or $6 million per store. Management also has an ambition of tripling OXXO Mexico’s percentage of food service, expects labor expenses as a percentage of revenues to increase probably more in the short term following a 13% increase in minimum wage and a reduction in the work week next year, and expects to be somewhere in the 1.5, 1.6 net debt to EBITDA range by the end of this year, first quarter of next year, versus an unchanged leverage objective of approximately two times net debt to adjusted EBITDA ex-KOF.

  • Strong Consolidated Revenue and Operating Income GrowthFEMSA's third-quarter total revenues increased 9.8% year over year and operating income grew 9.9%. On a comparable currency-neutral basis, total revenues increased 9.4% and operating income increased 13.4%, reflecting solid performance at OXXO México and Coca-Cola FEMSA, as well as cost containment and restructuring initiatives.
  • Significant Increase in Net Consolidated IncomeNet consolidated income reached MXN 10.6 billion, an increase of 81%, mainly due to operating income performance, an undemanding comparison base that included a MXN 3.1 billion loss from discontinued operations in the prior-year quarter, and a MXN 1.1 billion non-cash foreign exchange gain versus a MXN 1.2 billion loss previously.
  • OXXO México Same-Store Sales and Traffic RecoveryOXXO México same-store sales grew 9.2% in the third quarter, driven by a 5.5% increase in average ticket and a 3.5% increase in average traffic. Traffic was 150 basis points above the second-quarter level despite only one Mexico World Cup match in early July and little tournament benefit.
  • OXXO México Market Share GainsAccording to market data available through August, OXXO continued to gain share against all relevant trade channels in its categories. Year to date, market share in those categories was above 2024 levels, with most gains concentrated in core impulse categories.
  • Progress Across OXXO Strategic PillarsTraffic growth was reported across all four strategic pillars. Food service traffic grew at a low double-digit rate, driven mainly by coffee; daily and replenishment was modestly accretive to traffic in its early testing phase; and services traffic also grew.
  • OXXO México Profit Growth Despite Margin PressureOXXO México's gross profit increased 7.4% and operating income grew 5.8%. After normalizing for the impact of above-trend store closures, operating income increased 8% and operating margin contracted by 20 basis points.
  • Disciplined Value Proposition and Profitability ManagementManagement said it achieved a better balance among price, gross margin, assortment, in-store execution, promotions, and commercial income to drive traffic while protecting profitability. Affordability initiatives were offset by higher commercial income and solid growth in higher-margin services.
  • OXXO México Strategy and Testing PipelineOXXO México continued testing structured price experiments, redesigned coffee areas and value propositions, and the Canasta OXXO everyday-essentials offer. Management said tests are being measured against total margin break-even and only initiatives with positive overall value contribution will be scaled.
  • OXXO International and OXXO Brasil PerformanceThe Americas & Mobility segment generated MXN 29.5 billion of revenue, up 18.1%, or 10.9% on a comparable currency-neutral basis. OXXO Colombia's mature-store traffic grew at a high single-digit pace, while OXXO Brasil same-store sales increased 5.1% on a currency-neutral basis.
  • Bara Expansion and Store MaturationBara same-store sales increased 10.3% and the business added 112 net new stores, sustaining the rapid expansion pace of the second quarter. Newer store cohorts were maturing faster than legacy stores in the Bajío, and management said the format was expected to open more stores next year than this year.
  • Coca-Cola FEMSA GrowthCoca-Cola FEMSA revenue increased 10.9% and operating income grew 15.4%, including a one-time insurance claim benefit. Excluding that benefit, operating income still increased 7.4%. Mexico volumes performed well after the excise tax increase, while South America delivered robust volume growth in Colombia and Brazil and double-digit operating income growth.
  • Coca-Cola FEMSA and OXXO Mexico Expansion PlansManagement remains committed to approximately 1,000 net new OXXO México stores for the foreseeable future. It described Colombia as ready for accelerated expansion, expects OXXO Brasil to expand by about one store a week or approximately 70 net new stores next year, and expects Bara's growth rate to be above 30%.
  • Food Service and Caffenio OpportunitiesManagement is pursuing an ambition to triple OXXO México's percentage of food service, describing the opportunity as margin accretive. Caffenio coffee sales per OXXO store were well above last year but below management's potential and target. FEMSA also operates approximately 300 Caffenio coffee drive stores, which are showing strong customer demand, and now owns 100% of Caffenio.
  • Capital Returns and Financial FlexibilityFEMSA announced a new share buyback program in addition to approximately MXN 41 billion of ordinary and extraordinary dividends expected for the March 2006 to March 2027 cycle, of which MXN 30 billion had been distributed. The remaining MXN 11 billion was expected to be distributed early next year. Management also expects flexibility for a potential extraordinary dividend or additional buybacks.
  • Capital Allocation and CapEx DisciplineThird-quarter CapEx was MXN 9.4 billion, approximately 4% of total revenues, and decreased 28.3% versus last year, primarily because Coca-Cola FEMSA had lower capital expenditures after a demanding prior-year comparison base. FEMSA reiterated that it is preserving flexibility to fund organic growth and pursue opportunities meeting its return thresholds.
  • Technology and Operating Efficiency InitiativesManagement said it continues implementing dynamic shifts and technology to improve store efficiency, including testing technology that measures shelf inventory. It also reported significant progress from corporate and operating overhead initiatives, with potentially one to two quarters of additional tailwinds.
  • Encouraging U.S. and European Capability DevelopmentFEMSA reported encouraging results from converted OXXO stores in West Texas and from the Mex-Mex food-service offering with Doña Tota. The company is also developing a new-to-industry opportunity in Texas, although next year's expansion is expected to be less than single digit.
