Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Cash GenerationSustained positive operating and free cash flow provides durable funding for working capital, capex, deleveraging and buybacks. Reliable cash conversion supports resilience through cycles, funds aftermarket/service investments that drive repeatable revenue and underpins capital-allocation optionality.
Improved Leverage & LiquidityMeaningfully lower leverage and an extended credit facility increase financial flexibility, reduce refinancing risk, and free capacity for strategic investment or shareholder returns. A cleaner balance sheet lets management allocate capital to aftermarket growth or weather lower activity periods without urgent funding pressure.
Backlog And Product CommercializationA record backlog plus new commercialized products signal durable revenue visibility and competitive differentiation. Broad product adoption across regions strengthens installed base, which fuels recurring aftermarket sales and supports higher utilization and steady long-term revenue growth.
Bears Say
Below-the-line ProfitabilityPersistent net losses, despite operational gains, constrain return on equity and limit retained-earnings growth. Bottom-line weakness can restrict long-term dividend or buyback capacity and signals remaining non-operational or financing costs that must be resolved for durable shareholder returns.
Product-mix Margin PressureA structural shift toward lower-margin subsea or pass-through product mix can compress long-term EBITDA and FCF margins. Even with cost savings, sustained mix headwinds reduce capital available for reinvestment and slow margin expansion, limiting durable profitability improvements.
Cyclicality And Seasonality Of DemandHeavy exposure to customer capex cycles and back-half weighted cash flows makes revenue and FCF timing volatile. Structural cyclicality raises planning uncertainty, can prolong periods of underutilization, and requires larger liquidity buffers or conservative capital allocation to maintain stability across cycles.
