Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Sustained Revenue And Profitability RecoveryNGS has moved from losses to sustained profitability while growing revenue from $72.4M in 2021 to $189.4M TTM. Higher gross margins indicate improved pricing, scale and fleet mix, supporting earnings durability over the medium term.
High Utilization And Stronger Fleet MixRecord utilization and expansion toward large-horsepower and electric units improve revenue productivity per asset. This mix shift, supported by customer commitments, can strengthen pricing, operating leverage and competitive positioning.
Accretive Scale Expansion And Working-capital GainsFlatrock expands basin density, customers and electric compression capabilities, while materially better collections release capital from receivables. Together, these changes increase platform scale and can support growth without equivalent balance-sheet investment.
Bears Say
Materially Higher LeverageDebt has increased sharply alongside expansion and the Flatrock acquisition, reducing financial flexibility. Higher leverage makes NGS more dependent on stable utilization and cash generation, particularly if customer spending weakens.
Weak And Volatile Free-cash-flow ConversionAlthough operating cash flow is strong, heavy growth investment and working-capital variability have left recent free cash flow very thin. This limits internally funded deleveraging and increases the importance of disciplined capital deployment.
Cost, Supply And Integration Execution RisksPersistent input inflation and equipment shortages could constrain margins and fleet growth, while Flatrock benefits remain unquantified. Execution across procurement, integration and maintenance must offset these pressures for expansion returns to remain durable.

Company Description
Natural Gas Services Group
Natural Gas Services Group, Inc. (NGS) is a U.S.-based company that specializes in providing natural gas compression solutions and equipment to the energy sector. NGS's activities encompass the full lifecycle of natural gas compressors and associated gear, including their design, manufacturing, rental, and sale. A significant portion of its operations centers on the rental of compression units, which cater to small, medium, and large horsepower requirements, primarily supporting unconventional oil and natural gas extraction. As of December 31, 2021, NGS maintained a substantial rental fleet comprising 2,023 natural gas compression units, collectively generating 418,041 horsepower. Beyond rental, NGS is also involved in the engineering, fabrication, and assembly of compressor components, which are then integrated into full compressor units for either rental or direct sale. The company further designs and manufactures its own range of reciprocating compressor frames, cylinders, and various parts. In addition to compression, NGS extends its expertise to flare stacks. It designs, fabricates, sells, installs, and services flare stacks along with their accompanying ignition and control systems. These systems are crucial for the safe, controlled incineration of various gas compounds – such as hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, natural gas, and liquefied petroleum gases – in both onshore and offshore environments. To complement its product offerings, NGS provides comprehensive customer support for its compressor and flare sales, and it also runs an exchange and rebuild program specifically for small horsepower screw compressors. NGS primarily serves a diverse client base within the energy sector, including exploration and production (E&P) companies utilizing compressor units for artificial lift, E&P firms focused on natural gas-weighted production, and various midstream companies. Established in 1998, Natural Gas Services Group, Inc. is headquartered in Midland, Texas.
NGS Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was predominantly positive: the company reported record revenue, adjusted EBITDA, utilization, strong fleet growth and mix shift toward large-horsepower and electric units, improved working capital and cash generation, and an accretive acquisition that expands scale and capabilities. Challenges cited (inflationary cost pressure, extended equipment lead times, one-time tax and transaction costs, and integration/synergy uncertainty) are real but appear manageable relative to the company’s operational momentum, liquidity, and raised guidance.View all DE:NGS earnings summariesNGS Stock 12 Month Forecast
