Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Low Leverage / Debt-free Balance SheetZero reported total debt provides durable financial flexibility: it reduces fixed interest obligations and preserves capacity to fund R&D or weather delays. Over a 2–6 month horizon this strengthens the company’s ability to pursue development milestones or seek non-debt financing without interest pressure.
Clinical-stage Pipeline & Partnership StrategyA focused antibody/protein portfolio targeting oncology and rare diseases plus an explicit collaboration strategy is structurally advantageous: it concentrates resources on high-value indications and allows the company to accelerate development or share costs through partnerships, improving chances of achieving commercial milestones.
Authorized Equity Issuance Extends Financing OptionsBoard authority to issue shares non-pre-emptively through 2029 is a durable governance tool that materially increases the company’s ability to raise capital when needed. This structural flexibility can extend runway for clinical programs and enable strategic partnerships or licensing without requiring debt financing.
Bears Say
Sustained Cash BurnPersistent negative operating and free cash flows indicate the company is consuming cash to fund operations and trials. Over the next several months this continuous burn will force reliance on external financing or partnerships, constraining strategic optionality and increasing execution risk if funds are delayed.
Minimal Revenue With Large Net LossesNear-zero recurring revenue combined with very large trailing losses points to no internal profit engine to fund development. This structural profitability gap means the company remains dependent on financing until product approvals or meaningful commercialization, elevating long-term dilution and execution risk.
Declining Equity Base And Dilution RiskMaterial declines in shareholders' equity over recent periods reflect cumulative losses and past financings. Coupled with board authority to issue shares, this structural decline raises the probability of further equity raises and dilution, which can erode existing investor value and limit long-term return potential.

Company Description
Mereo Biopharma
Mereo BioPharma Group plc, a London-based biopharmaceutical firm established in 2015, specializes in developing and commercializing innovative therapies for oncology and rare conditions. Operating both in the United Kingdom and internationally, the company boasts a diverse product pipeline. Its primary oncology asset, etigilimab (OMP-313M32), an antibody T-cell immunoreceptor, is presently undergoing Phase 1b clinical investigation for tumor treatment. Another cancer compound, Navicixizumab (OMP-305B83), has already concluded its Phase 1b clinical studies for patients battling late-stage ovarian cancer. Beyond cancer, Mereo is advancing several other promising candidates. These include Acumapimod (BCT-197), a p38 MAP kinase inhibitor, which is currently in Phase II clinical trials for addressing acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Additionally, Leflutrozole (BGS-649), an oral aromatase inhibitor, is being developed to manage hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Within its rare disease portfolio, Mereo features Setrusumab (BPS-804), a novel antibody designed to treat osteogenesis imperfecta, and Alvelestat (MPH-966), an oral small molecule in Phase II clinical trials for Alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. To bolster its research, Mereo BioPharma collaborates with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, focusing on the evaluation of its anti-TIGIT therapeutic antibody candidate, etigilimab.
