Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 30, 2026|
% Change Since:
|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was broadly constructive, supported by 9.2% operating income growth, 6% net profit growth, stable NIM, improving corporate asset quality, strong deposit growth, strategic credit expansion and continued shareholder returns. Management also highlighted meaningful pressures, including expected NIM narrowing next year, declining loan yields, structurally slower credit growth, retail and inclusive-finance risk, real estate-related NPL pressure, uncertainty around some non-interest income sources and limited near-term dilution from the planned private placement. Overall, the positive operating and asset-quality trends significantly outweighed the disclosed challenges.
Company Guidance
ICBC said that if policy rates remain stable, NIM is expected to stable and find a bottom this year with slightly narrowing pressure next year; the liability interest expense ratio fell 20 bps from the beginning of the year, while the positive contribution to next year margin is expected to diminish, and asset yields will face continued downward pressure next year. Full year loan growth is expected to be around 6%, consistently above the national average and GDP growth. At the end of Q3, maximum EVE change was 14.15%, with the capital injection expected to reduce it by 0.35 percentage points; Q4 government bond issuance is projected at CNY 3.8 trillion and local government bond issuance at CNY 2 trillion, with the market expected to broadly maintain a range bound pattern. The bank is confident in carrying forward steady performance in both operating revenue and net profit for the full year, while 2027 faces some narrowing pressure in NIM and risk cost face upward pressure. New RMB time-deposit rates were 1.15%, down 11 basis points Y-o-Y, and time deposits repricing volume is similar to that of this year. Retail risk is expected to remain manageable, business loan NPL ratio will remain stable, and overall asset quality indicators are expected to remain stable; eligible subsidized mortgage loans accounted for 30% of all new loans and 50% of all loans in numbers. The private placement is CNY 100 billion and, assuming completion on November 13, 2026, with a profit growth rate of 3% and dividend payout ratio increased to 31%, EPS will not be diluted if the impact applies only to December, while EPS will decline by 0.27% and ROE will decline by 2.48 percentage points if the issue share effect full year indicators; if 2026 attributed net profit growth reaches 3.3% year-on-year, the dilution of EPS can be fully offset.
Strong First Three-Quarter Profitability
Group operating income reached CNY 667.14 billion, up 9.2% year-over-year, while net profit reached CNY 288.28 billion, up 6% year-over-year. Management said earnings growth accelerated compared with the first half.

ICBC provided more than CNY 300 billion of cumulative financing support to eight national-level advanced manufacturing clusters, while green finance and inclusive finance loan growth exceeded the average growth of all loans.
Full-Year Loan Growth Outlook
Management expects full-year loan growth to be around 6%, consistently above the national average and GDP growth. The bank has begun building reserves and engaging with customers for next year's projects, including the Six Networks initiative.

More Stable Funding Base
The daily average increment of total deposits reached CNY 2.4 trillion by the end of Q3, CNY 1 trillion higher year-over-year. Daily average increments across major deposit types exceeded prior-year levels, which management said indicated stronger fund retention and a more solid liability base.
Interest Rate Risk Remained Within Regulatory Threshold
The maximum EVE change at the end of Q3 was 14.15%, down 0.26 percentage points from the beginning of the year and up 0.06 percentage points from midyear. Management said the measurement pressure was controllable and that the 2026 regulatory parameter adjustment reduced the ratio by approximately 1.1 percentage points.

Agency sales revenue from precious metals, funds and wealth management products grew by 97%, 55% and 6%, respectively. Pension-related income increased 35%, while personal customer AUM reached CNY 27 trillion and continued to lead the industry.

Continued AI and Digital Finance Deployment
ICBC has deployed large language models across more than 700 scenarios and is developing an enterprise-level AI engine, an AI data foundation and three smart application platforms serving retail, corporate customers and employees. Management said it is establishing a lifecycle framework to screen, measure and review AI investment returns.
Higher Shareholder Returns
Cumulative cash dividends since listing exceeded CNY 1.6 trillion, while the interim payout ratio was raised to 31%. Management reiterated its intention to maintain dividend continuity and stability while balancing shareholder returns, capital adequacy and business growth.
Capital and Long-Term Scale Strength
Management said the planned CNY 100 billion private placement will strengthen the capital base and support strategic priorities including the five priorities of finance, manufacturing, technology, international expansion and comprehensive financial services. Since listing, cumulative dividends reached CNY 1.69 trillion, the provision coverage ratio rose to 211.64%, and the capital adequacy ratio increased to 18.5% from 10.4% before listing.
