The company maintains a significant operational presence in South Africa, comprising nine underground mines located in the Witwatersrand Basin, an open-pit mine on the Kraaipan Greenstone Belt, and multiple surface treatment facilities. Beyond South Africa, Harmony Gold possesses interests in Papua New Guinea, including the Hidden Valley, an open-pit gold and silver mine, and the Wafi-Golpu project situated in Morobe Province. Established in 1950, its corporate headquarters are located in Randfontein, South Africa.
