Q2 2026 Earnings Call Summary
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was strongly positive. Management reported record first-half revenue, profit and order intake, systems-business profitability, expanding margins in systems, improved operating cash flow, major capacity expansion, a growing backlog and confidence in exceeding expectations for the current year and 2027 and 2028. These positives outweighed challenges including delayed U.S. orders, supply-chain constraints, tariff-related ecosystem headwinds, lumpy systems-business performance, recruitment difficulties and the absence of an interim dividend.Company Guidance
Record First-Half Financial Performance
The company described the first half of 2026 as its best ever on pretty much every metric, with revenue of GBP 23.2 million and profit of GBP 3.2 million.
Exceptional Order Intake
First-half order intake was GBP 46.9 million, in line with the entirety of the prior year's record order intake. Order intake had increased to GBP 68 million by 1 September.
Design Wins Beginning to Convert
Approximately two-thirds of the GBP 46.9 million first-half order intake was associated with prior design wins, including the GBP 17 million order secured in June, consistent with management's expectation that design-win-related order intake would start to pick up in 2026.
Largest-Ever GBP 17 Million Contract
The company closed its substantially largest-ever order, a GBP 17 million contract for four years' worth of supply after Intel launched a last-time buy for the processor used in the customer's solution. The company had already been paid the upfront milestone cash and was purchasing roughly GBP 6 million of components.
Strong Design-Win Pipeline
Programs into which the company has been designed have an aggregate customer-assessed value of GBP 129 million to Concurrent Technologies. Management described this as its largest published lifetime value for design wins to date, partly reflecting the inclusion of higher-value systems work.
Systems Business Reached Profitability
The systems business became profitable in the first half, compared with a GBP 400K or GBP 500K loss last year. Systems revenue increased 9%, while gross margin rose 13 points from 13.3% to 26.3%.
Products Business Delivered Growth
The products business generated GBP 19.8 million of first-half revenue, up 11% year over year.
Improved Cash Position and No Debt
Closing cash was 24% up on the prior year despite significant first-half investment. Net cash from operating activities was positive, compared with significantly negative operating cash flow in the prior-year half, and the company remained debt-free while retaining a GBP 5 million RCF facility.
Significant Capacity Expansion
The company doubled the capacity of its Colchester factory. The new machines were commissioned and running, with management expecting the expanded capacity to operate flat out at the back end of the year.
Expanded Facilities and Engineering Capability
The company added 14,000 sq ft in the building next door, with the first wing completed and the second wing expected to open in the next few weeks. The expansion includes a substantial engineering lab and additional rooms to support business growth.
Product Portfolio Expansion and Currency
The company launched five new products in the first half and now offers a more diverse portfolio covering graphics cards, systems, storage, FPGA and other products. Management said customers and core partners view the portfolio as exceptionally up-to-date.
Strong Systems Opportunity Pipeline
Management cited approximately 10 or a dozen discussions involving similar-sized opportunities to the potential Asian vehicle-upgrade program. One example involves potentially fitting two computers per vehicle across 300 vehicles at an approximately $150,000 unit price, although it has not yet become an order or design win.
Growing Backlog and Multi-Year Visibility
The backlog included roughly GBP 35 million of work to be delivered in 2027 and beyond, with the bulk in 2027. Management said the opening backlog for 2027 could be GBP 40 or GBP 50 million by 1 January, roughly 10 times the level of five years earlier. Book-to-bill was greater than one for the first time.
Revenue Growth Since 2022
Management stated that revenue had increased by over three times since 2022, while profit margin was 13.8% for the half year and the long-term objective remained the mid to high teens.
Cybersecurity and Physical Security Investment
The company continued investing in cybersecurity tools, IT, people and training, and had secured Defense Cyber Certification Level Two in the U.S. It was also implementing additional physical-security measures at the Colchester facility, including new access controls and building protections.
Acquisition Strategy Progress
Management said the Phillips Aerospace acquisition was going very well and that the systems business had now been mobilized, satisfying the condition previously set before pursuing the next acquisition. GBP 114K of exceptional costs was attributed to the activity currently being worked on.
Positive Outlook and Guidance
The board said it was extremely comfortable exceeding this year's expectations and the expectations for 2027 and 2028. Management also expects the systems business to grow and, in time, become larger than the products business.
Broad Defense-Market Exposure
The company sells into air, land and sea applications, including aircraft, helicopters, amphibious vehicles and radars, as well as very large drones. Management expects most growth to be associated with land vehicles as open systems create a more level playing field.
