Q2 2026 Earnings Call Summary
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was predominantly positive about operational momentum, with subscription growth estimated at around 235%, conversion improving to around 3.4%, churn reduced to 11%, CAC down almost 2/3 and substantial product and infrastructure progress. However, management also acknowledged that ARR and subscriber numbers remain small, the cash runway and equity funding situation are important concerns, the share price has fallen sharply, governance and CFO-transition issues remain visible, and several growth initiatives are still in development. Highlights significantly outweighed the stated challenges, but the financial position remains a material risk.Company Guidance
Subscription Growth Accelerated
Q3 subscription growth is estimated at around 235%. Conversion improved from around 1% in March, to 2.4% at the end of June, and around 3.4% at the end of September.
Improved Retention and ARR
Churn was reduced to 11%, while ARR improved from around GBP 30,000 in June to around GBP 90,000 at the end of September.
Lower Customer Acquisition Cost
Compared with the February period when marketing investment was previously active, CAC has been reduced by almost 2/3 through improved audience understanding, positioning and messaging.
Product Development Progress
The company added an Epidemic Sound library, thousands of fonts and custom font support, AI voice isolation, colour grading, project recovery, animation capabilities and revised plans and pricing during the year.
GPU-Accelerated Graphics and Text Engine
Blackbird has developed a GPU-accelerated graphics engine intended to bring desktop-level graphics, text controls, animation and presets into the browser. The company said this should put Elevate on par with larger NLEs and desktop products for handling text and graphics.
Expanded Team and Collaboration Features
Planned and ongoing product work includes view-only users, improved organizational collaboration, YouTube integration, expanded content-import options, webcam capture and audio effects.
Marketing Investment Resumed
After a marketing freeze from March to approximately halfway through July, the company resumed acquisition investment in mid-July. Management said growth increased sharply after advertising restarted.
Teams Show Higher Conversion
Marketing teams convert to paid plans at a higher rate than other segments, with the company stating that conversion for the marketing-professional segment is about twice the rate of hobbyists and content creators.
Growing Platform Usage
More than 7,300 videos were made and exported from the platform during September as of the presentation, including 2,500 in the preceding week. Management also said storage usage, processing activity and overall platform activity were increasing.
Infrastructure Efficiency and Scalability
The AWS infrastructure was described as coping with increased demand without difficulty. Server-side GPU processing is expected to make exports faster for users and cheaper for the company, while management said data-centre costs were going down as usage increased.
AI Viewed as a Complement
Management said AI is a net advantage and complement to Elevate rather than a replacement threat. Existing AI features include subtitling and voice reduction, while the company is experimenting with AI agents for removing ums and ahs, recutting content, graphics generation and automated assembly.
AI Discovery Improved
The company said sign-ups from AI discovery were approximately three times higher than in June and that Elevate was appearing for about 41 keywords in AI search. Q4 activity will include YouTube, podcasts, digital PR and comparison content to increase trusted citations.
Planned Text Animation Launch
Text animation was identified as a major upcoming feature and a potential way to improve Elevate's proposition by combining captions, animation and video creation in one browser-based experience.
Product Accessibility on Lower-Specification Devices
The product engine has been improved to work well on lower-powered machines, including Google Chromebooks and other lower-specification devices, as higher-end NLEs require increasing memory and GPU support.
Continued Weekly Feature Development
The product team said feature drops occur every week and that the major engineering problems around graphics, text, animation and integrations have been addressed, leaving the team focused on executing and continuing improvement.
Corporate and Board Development
Sumit Rai was appointed to the main Board. The company is also actively recruiting an independent non-executive chair and confirmed that a new interim CFO was expected to start on Thursday.
EVS Relationship Remains Encouraging
Early renewal discussions with EVS have begun. Management said receiving the same deal again would be amazing and noted that EVS had received significant new interest in the product that includes Blackbird technology.
Cost Base Rightsized
Management said it had taken a disciplined approach to the cost base, completed several rounds of reductions and rightsized the team. It does not intend to reduce staffing further.
Marketing and Product Teams Working Together
Management expressed confidence in the coordination between the marketing and product teams and said this collaboration was delivering the growth seen over the preceding months.
