Bulls Say
Multi-brand GrowthFour is adding a strong growth engine beyond the legacy leasing business, combining triple-digit volume expansion with positive earnings and rising shopper engagement. Its growing subscriber contribution and improving scale can broaden PROG’s merchant reach and support more durable consolidated growth over the next several quarters.
Raised Operating OutlookManagement’s higher full-year revenue, EBITDA and EPS outlook reflects confidence that recent operating momentum will persist across the portfolio. The upgraded targets provide evidence of improving execution and give the company a clearer earnings framework, although delivery remains tied to its stated macro assumptions.
Deleveraging And LiquidityDebt repayment and improved net leverage strengthen financial flexibility after the Purchasing Power acquisition. Combined with substantial liquidity and positive operating cash flow, this progress gives PROG more capacity to fund growth, absorb volatility and pursue shareholder returns without relying solely on additional borrowing.
Bears Say
Higher Overall LeverageDespite recent recourse debt reduction, the trailing balance sheet is materially more debt-heavy than a year earlier. Higher leverage can reduce financial flexibility if credit conditions tighten and increases the importance of maintaining repayment performance and cash generation across consumer finance portfolios.
Lease-to-own Revenue PressureThe core leasing segment remains under pressure even though its GMV returned to growth, because a smaller average portfolio is reducing reported revenue. This mismatch limits near-term consolidated growth and means PROG must rely on newer businesses and improved portfolio scale to offset weakness in its largest segment.
Elevated Write-offs And Consumer StressWrite-offs above the company’s target range indicate pressure on customer repayment performance and can weaken margins in the lease portfolio. Persistent inflation, higher gas costs and seasonal risk could keep losses elevated, especially because the full-year outlook assumes no meaningful deterioration in macro conditions.

The Progressive Leasing division provides customers with rent-to-own options for a diverse array of merchandise, such as furniture, household appliances, electronic gadgets, jewelry, mobile phones and their accessories, mattresses, and automobile electronics and fittings. These services are delivered through various touchpoints, including in-store, mobile, and online channels, often in collaboration with point-of-sale and e-commerce retail partners. Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call presented a decidedly positive operational and financial story: consolidated GMV surged 60%, revenue and adjusted EBITDA beat guidance, Four delivered profitable triple-digit growth, Purchasing Power integration produced meaningful margin improvement, and Progressive Leasing returned to GMV growth with strong segment profitability. Offsetting risks include elevated Progressive Leasing write-offs (8.4% in Q2), revenue pressure from a smaller leasing portfolio, and ongoing consumer stress from inflation and gas prices. Management raised full-year guidance while acknowledging macro sensitivities and maintaining discipline on portfolio decisioning.View all DE:AZD earnings summariesAZD Revenue Breakdown
