Q3 2026 Earnings Call Summary

Q3 2026
Earnings Call Date:Oct 27, 2026|% Change Since:-1.96%|
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive

The call was predominantly positive, with year-over-year growth in net income and EPS, record revenue, higher net interest margin, strong deposit and home equity growth, improved credit metrics, disciplined expense management, and solid capital. The main challenges were lower non-interest income, flat overall loan balances with a slight decline in commercial balances, higher provision expense, lower tangible common equity measures due to higher rates, and a potentially slower pace of margin expansion. Management nevertheless expressed confidence in the fourth quarter and in Camden's positioning for 2027.

Company Guidance

For the fourth quarter, management estimates net interest margin to be relatively consistent with the third quarter’s 3.41%, non-interest income to increase to $13.5 million-$14.5 million, and non-interest expense to approximate the current quarterly run rate within a range of $37.5 million-$38 million; over the longer term, it remains focused on managing the efficiency ratio in the mid-50s±. Management expects modest growth in the fourth quarter, with the quarter certainly in the ballpark of where the company was for the third quarter, and is looking for low single-digit growth through 2027. It is positioned well to see continued margin expansion into 2027, although with pending rate hikes the pace will likely slow and, between quarters, could be choppy; on an annual basis, it is thinking about margin continuing to move forward. Seasonal deposit growth is generally in the neighborhood of 1%-2%, securities cash flows are in the $30 million-$40 million range per quarter, with a base closer to the midpoint in $35 million on an average per quarter, loan cash flows are in the neighborhood of $200 million-$250 million on a quarterly basis, and new loan pricing is expected to be in that 6.25%, 6.50 range in the near term.

  • Higher Net Income and Diluted EPSThird quarter net income was $22.8 million and diluted EPS was $1.34. Compared with the third quarter of 2025, net income rose 8% and diluted EPS rose 7%, reflecting strong earnings momentum and continued execution across the core franchise.
  • Record Revenue and Improved Operating PerformancePre-tax, pre-provision income rose 4% from the second quarter and 6% from a year ago to $31.2 million. Total revenue reached a record $68.7 million, up from $67.4 million in the second quarter, reflecting stronger core operating performance and improved operating leverage.
  • Net Interest Margin ExpansionReported net interest margin increased 15 basis points from the second quarter to 3.41%, exceeding prior guidance. Core net interest margin increased 13 basis points to 3.10%, driven by a more favorable funding mix and lower funding costs.
  • Lower Funding and Deposit CostsAverage funding costs declined to 1.63% in the third quarter from 1.70% in the second quarter, while average deposit costs edged down to 1.55%. Strong core deposit growth improved the funding mix and supported the 15-basis-point quarterly margin expansion.
  • Strong Deposit GrowthTotal deposits increased 5% from the second quarter and 8% from a year ago to $5.8 billion. Seasonal inflows, strong customer retention, new customer relationships, high-yield savings activity, and deposit inflows from some larger customers supported the growth.
  • Home Equity GrowthHome equity balances increased 7% during the quarter and 25% year over year, reaching a record $392 million. Management attributed the momentum to a strong customer experience, a broadened sales network, and continued focus on the product's capabilities.
  • Commercial Banking ExpansionCamden added four experienced commercial bankers, including two covering Massachusetts and two covering southern Maine. Management said the hires are building strong pipelines and expects the additions to support commercial growth over time while maintaining discipline on structure and pricing.
  • Commercial Loan Pipeline and Growth OutlookThe commercial loan pipeline was $127 million, which management described as strong for Camden. Management expects modest loan growth in the fourth quarter and is targeting low single-digit loan growth through 2027.
  • Growth in Wealth and Brokerage AssetsWealth and brokerage assets under administration reached $2.6 billion at quarter end, up 10% year over year, supporting the strategy to expand recurring fee streams, deepen customer relationships, and diversify the revenue mix.
  • Technology Investment Supporting ExecutionCamden is investing in data capabilities through its partnership with Snowflake. Business teams are using Snowflake Explorer to access customer and performance insights directly, reducing reliance on manual analysis and enabling faster, better-informed decisions, more targeted sales outreach, and improved customer engagement.
  • Disciplined Expense Management and EfficiencyNon-interest expense was essentially unchanged from the second quarter despite targeted investments in the franchise and key hires. The non-GAAP efficiency ratio improved to 52.44% from 53.23% in the second quarter, while management remains focused on managing the ratio in the mid-50s range over the longer term.
  • Sound Credit PerformanceNon-performing loans declined to 16 basis points of total loans at September 30 from 24 basis points in the prior quarter. Past-due loans declined to 14 basis points from 15 basis points, net charge-offs were 7 basis points of average loans on an annualized basis for the quarter and 5 basis points year to date, and management said overall credit performance remained sound.
  • Strong Balance Sheet and CapitalCamden ended the quarter with approximately $7.1 billion in total assets, ample liquidity, solid capital, and sound credit quality. The total risk-based capital ratio increased to 14.82% and the tier one leverage ratio increased to 9.92%.
  • Positive Fourth-Quarter and 2027 OutlookManagement feels good about the fourth-quarter outlook and believes Camden is well positioned for 2027. Fourth-quarter net interest margin is expected to be relatively consistent with the third quarter, non-interest income is estimated at $13.5 million-$14.5 million, and non-interest expense is estimated at $37.5 million-$38 million.
  • Loan and Securities Portfolio Cash FlowsManagement expects securities portfolio cash flows of approximately $30 million-$40 million per quarter, with a base closer to the midpoint of $35 million, and total contractual and estimated loan prepayment cash flows of approximately $200 million-$250 million per quarter.
  • New Loan PricingThe portfolio origination rate for the third quarter was around 6.30%. Management expects new loan pricing to remain approximately 6.25%-6.50% in the near term.
