Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Cash GenerationStrong operating and free cash flow provide internal funding for development, manufacturing investment, remediation, and shareholder returns. Solid conversion of earnings into cash also supports earnings quality and gives Amphastar flexibility to manage changing product economics over the next several quarters.
Product Portfolio And Pipeline MomentumRecent launches are adding revenue while the biosimilar and proprietary pipeline broadens future growth options across complex generics, biologics, and specialty products. This combination can reduce reliance on mature products and sustain portfolio expansion if development and approvals progress as planned.
BAQSIMI Franchise And Guidance SupportBAQSIMI continues to demonstrate meaningful prescription demand and has reached a contractual sales milestone that adds substantial near-term cash support. Management also maintained 2026 sales guidance, indicating the broader portfolio is expected to offset pressure in selected products.
Bears Say
IMS FDA Remediation RiskThe FDA warning letter creates a continuing operational and regulatory burden at a manufacturing subsidiary. Remediation spending, additional quality reviews, possible batch-release delays, and uncertainty over FDA acceptance could pressure IMS revenue and consolidated margins over coming quarters.
Glucagon Competitive DeclineGlucagon is experiencing a substantial and apparently persistent competitive erosion rather than a one-quarter fluctuation. Continued decline in this established product can reduce portfolio contribution, weaken operating leverage, and require stronger growth from newer products to maintain overall expansion.
Margin And Operating-cost PressureHigher commercial, administrative, and manufacturing costs are reducing operating leverage while lower selling prices and product-mix effects weigh on profitability. Margin normalization limits earnings growth from revenue gains and makes sustained improvement more dependent on launches and cost control.

Amphastar Pharmaceuticals, Inc., established in 1996 and based in Rancho Cucamonga, California, functions as a biopharmaceutical enterprise. The company is engaged in the creation, production, commercialization, and distribution of both generic and proprietary pharmaceutical products, which include injectables, inhalants, and intranasal formulations. Its market presence extends across the United States, China, and France. Other significant offerings include emergency Glucagon injection kits; Cortrosyn, a diagnostic agent for adrenocortical insufficiency; and Amphadase, a bovine-sourced hyaluronidase injection that aids in the absorption and dispersion of other administered drugs. Amphastar additionally supplies Epinephrine injections for severe allergic reactions; various lidocaine products (such as a jelly for urological procedures and a topical solution for other applications); Phytonadione injection (Vitamin K1) for newborns; and specialized emergency syringe products for hospital use. 29A Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call presented a mix of positive operational execution and material near-term challenges. Key positives include 5% revenue growth to $183.9M, gross margin expansion to 51%, successful new product launches (ipratropium bromide and other recent launches), strong BAQSIMI prescription growth (up ~17%) and a contract-year BAQSIMI milestone triggering a $100M payment in Q3. The company generated meaningful operating cash flow (~$51.3M) and repurchased ~$45M of stock, and advanced its development pipeline toward potential 2027 commercialization of the insulin aspart biosimilar and early-stage proprietary programs. On the negative side, the IMS FDA warning letter and related remediation will add $2–3M per quarter in expenses and could slow IMS sales and batch releases; glucagon sales declined sharply (-42% YoY) and several operating expense categories rose substantially (SG&A and G&A +30%). Management still maintained full-year sales guidance and emphasized diversification and U.S. manufacturing investments. Balancing the operational progress, financial improvements, and the notable regulatory and cost headwinds, the overall tone is cautiously constructive.View all DE:29A earnings summaries29A Stock 12 Month Forecast
