Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call was strongly positive. Brunswick reported broad-based sales and earnings growth, expanded margins across every segment, raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance, generated strong quarterly free cash flow, maintained market share gains, and described healthy pipelines and significant product and operational momentum. Management also cited macroeconomic pressure, inflation, tariff uncertainty, softer value-oriented retail demand, and fourth-quarter caution, but these lowlights were outweighed by the company's reported execution, resilience in premium and core categories, and confidence in its 2027 strategic plan.
Company Guidance
Brunswick raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to approximately $4.65, versus an initial full-year EPS guidance midpoint of $4.10, a midpoint of $4.25 in April and $4.55 in July, approximately 13% above its initial outlook and an increase of more than 42% versus 2025; revenue guidance remains $5.7 billion-$5.8 billion and adjusted operating margin guidance approximately 8%, with full-year Propulsion margin expansion of more than 100 basis points and Navico Group adjusted operating margin expansion in excess of 200 basis points. The company is maintaining its net incremental tariff estimate at approximately $40 million for 2026, expects to recognize $60 million-$70 million in gross IEEPA refunds, with approximately an additional $10 million reflected in full year guidance and the majority of the balance expected in 2027, and expects to meet or exceed its $160 million debt reduction target, exceed $80 million of repurchases for the full year, and lower net debt leverage to under 2 times during the next year. For 2027, management said sales growth in the 5%-8% and operating leverage of 20%-25% remain the strategic plan targets.
Strong Third-Quarter Financial Performance
Net sales were $1.5 billion, up 7% year over year, while adjusted operating earnings increased 38%. Adjusted EPS was $1.58, up 63%, and adjusted operating margin expanded 230 basis points to 10.1%, with performance significantly ahead of expectations.
Broad-Based Segment Growth
All reporting segments delivered year-over-year sales growth for the fifth consecutive quarter, and all segments expanded adjusted operating margin in the quarter.
Year-to-Date Sales and Earnings Growth
Year-to-date sales increased 9%, adjusted operating earnings rose 25%, adjusted operating margin expanded 100 basis points to 8.6%, and adjusted EPS increased 42% versus the first nine months of 2025.
Raised Full-Year EPS Guidance
Full-year adjusted EPS guidance was raised to approximately $4.65 from $4.55 previously. The new midpoint is approximately 13% above the initial $4.10 outlook and more than 42% above 2025 adjusted EPS of $3.27. Revenue guidance remains $5.7 billion-$5.8 billion and adjusted operating margin guidance remains approximately 8%.
Strong Free Cash Flow and Capital Allocation
Third-quarter free cash flow was $140 million, up $29 million or 26% versus the prior year. Brunswick repurchased $75 million of shares year to date, increased its full-year repurchase target to exceed $80 million, and retired $100 million of debt, keeping the company on track to meet or exceed its $160 million debt reduction target.
Propulsion Growth and Margin Expansion
Propulsion sales increased 7%, including 7% growth in outboard engines and 9% growth in controls, rigging, and propellers. Adjusted operating earnings increased 51%, while adjusted operating margin expanded 350 basis points to 12%, driven by higher volumes, favorable mix, improved absorption, and reduced year-over-year tariff pressure. The company remains on track for full-year propulsion margin expansion of more than 100 basis points.
Market Share Leadership in Outboard Engines
Brunswick maintained its market-leading U.S. outboard retail share of 46% and reported strong wholesale share gains year to date. Mercury achieved 67% overall outboard share at the Cannes show and 82% share at the Vieux Port location featuring larger, more premium boats. Five new outboard programs remain on track, with three launching next year.
Engine Parts and Accessories Strength
Engine Parts & Accessories delivered its highest third-quarter sales since 2020, with sales up 5% year over year. Adjusted operating earnings increased 14%, and adjusted operating margin expanded 190 basis points to 24.6%, supported by robust boating participation, distribution share gains, richer product mix, prior pricing actions, and cost discipline.
Distribution Share and Operational Performance
Land 'N' Sea's rolling 12-month distribution share increased 120 basis points. The business outperformed available industry benchmarks on profitability, workforce productivity, and cash conversion.
Navico Group Improvement
Navico Group sales increased 6%, with growth in all three business lines, while adjusted operating earnings rose 36%. Adjusted operating margin expanded 140 basis points to 6.1%, supported by OEM wins, new product launches, footprint consolidations, SKU rationalization, and cost actions. Navico Group remains on track for full-year adjusted operating margin expansion in excess of 200 basis points.
Navico Product and Capacity Momentum
Navico Group reported double-digit marine OEM growth from new product wins, a strengthening OEM pipeline heading into model year 2027, and the launch of the second phase of Ensenada capacity in early October. Simrad AutoCaptain debuted with Saxdor, the first independent and international OEM to integrate the system, with others following quickly.
Boat Segment Growth and Margin Expansion
Boat segment sales increased 9%, with Saltwater Fishing up 30%, aluminum freshwater up 13%, and Business Acceleration up 14%. Segment adjusted operating earnings doubled, while adjusted operating margin expanded 160 basis points to 3.6%, supported by favorable mix, pricing, cost reduction actions, and manufacturing and sourcing savings.
Premium, Core, and New Boat Product Momentum
Premium fiberglass and core U.S. brand retail sales were flat versus the prior year in the third quarter and year to date, while the NAVAN C38 launched at the Cannes Show and generated multiple orders. Brunswick also introduced the Lund TI, Harris Summit twin-engine models, Princecraft Platinum 220, Mercury Dockhook, Rev X 16-inch propeller, Navico ECS900, and a new AI intelligent boating assistant.
Freedom Boat Club Growth
Freedom Boat Club captured an estimated 69% of the North American boat club market, up 4 percentage points, while member trips increased 3% year to date. Freedom contributed roughly 13% of Boat segment sales, and its increasing global scale and analytics are enabling structural efficiencies in operations.
Lean and Healthy Pipelines
Global boat pipelines were down approximately 900 units versus the third quarter of last year, including a reduction of approximately 700 units in the U.S. U.S. outboard engine pipelines declined 3% year over year. Management described boat and engine pipelines as low and healthy, with wholesale aligned closely to retail.
Dealer Financial Position
Dealer sentiment was described as stable but cautious, while dealer finances remained healthy and benefited from low pipeline inventories. The majority of dealer partners have more than 50% of their credit capacity available, and more than 50% of dealers have more than 50% of their credit lines still available.
Product, Technology, and Recognition Achievements
Brunswick surpassed 100 Enterprise Awards for the fifth consecutive year and reached that milestone faster than ever. Newsweek again named Brunswick one of America's Most Trustworthy Companies, seven female leaders received Women Making Waves awards, and the company received recognition in the IBEX Innovation Awards' new EPIC Award category.
Leadership Transition and Strategic Continuity
Áine Denari will become CEO on January 1. Management stated that the company's strategy, capital allocation priorities, and long-term Investor Day targets remain unchanged. The company highlighted Denari's 30 years of operating experience and her record of driving market share gains, product innovation, revenue growth, margin expansion, and operating improvements.
Stated 2027 Strategic Plan Confidence
Management said it sees no reason that 2027 will not track the strategic plan targets of 5%-8% sales growth and 20%-25% operating leverage. Expected support includes three new Mercury outboards, repower share gains, Navico product launches, Boat Group footprint consolidation benefits, restocking, market share opportunities, and cost efficiencies.
