Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Record EBITDA RecoveryA substantial EBITDA rebound indicates structurally stronger operating margins and better cash generation from core PGM and gold businesses. Higher sustained EBITDA improves ability to fund reinvestment, service debt and maintain dividends even if commodity cycles moderate, strengthening medium-term solvency.
Material Net Debt Reduction And Improved LeverageA marked leverage reduction increases financial flexibility and lowers refinancing and covenant risk. With net debt/EBITDA near 0.6x, the company has durable capacity to refinance the 2026 bond, pursue staged project spend and sustain a dividend policy while retaining headroom for cyclical downturns.
Large Resource Base And Long-life OperationsExtensive resources and long-life operations provide durable production optionality and visibility, supporting multi-year revenue potential and staged capital allocation. This underpins long-term competitiveness, allows production smoothing, and supports strategic diversification into battery-metals without exhausting core PGM assets.
Bears Say
Large Impairments And Non-cash ChargesMaterial impairments signal revised long-term assumptions about asset economics and reduce the equity cushion. They can permanently lower return-on-capital for impaired projects, constrain future investment decisions, and may reflect real structural risks in certain operations or commodity-price sensitivity.
Volatile Free Cash Flow GenerationInconsistent free cash flow limits predictable funding for growth, dividends and deleveraging. Elevated reinvestment needs, working-capital swings and one-off outflows have historically depressed FCF, making capital allocation decisions more sensitive to commodity cycles and leaving less margin for sustained investments.
Kloof Production Disruption And Safety RisksSeismicity and safety-driven mine closures materially reduce near-term output and can shorten recoverable reserves, increasing unit costs. Persistent operational and safety issues at key assets create structural production risk, higher sustaining capex and reputational exposure that impair long-term volume and margin stability.

Company Description
Sibanye Stillwater Limited
Sibanye Stillwater Limited, along with its various subsidiaries, functions as a prominent precious metals mining entity with operations spanning South Africa, the United States, Zimbabwe, Canada, and Argentina. The company's primary outputs encompass gold and Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) – specifically palladium, platinum, and rhodium – alongside secondary commodities such as iridium, ruthenium, nickel, copper, and chrome. In the United States, its assets include the East Boulder and Stillwater mines situated in Montana. These are supported by the Columbus metallurgical complex, which is responsible for smelting the mined material into PGM-rich filter cake and also conducts PGM recycling activities. Its extensive portfolio in South Africa features PGM operations at Kroondal, Rustenburg, Marikana, and Platinum Mile. Gold production stems from surface facilities like Driefontein, Kloof, and Cooke, located on the West Rand of the Witwatersrand Basin, as well as the Beatrix mine in the southern Free State. Further international interests include the Mimosa mine in the southern region of Zimbabwe, the Marathon PGM project in Ontario, Canada, and the Altar and Rio Grande copper-gold ventures nestled within the Andes in northwest Argentina. Sibanye Stillwater also maintains holdings in surface tailings retreatment facilities and other South African gold projects, including Hoedspruit, Burnstone, and additional sites in the southern Free State. The company was founded in 2013 and maintains its headquarters in Weltevreden Park, South Africa.
