Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Strong Recent Cash GenerationConsistent positive operating and free cash flow across 2023–2025, with ~¥3.2B FCF in 2025, indicates the business can internally fund working capital and some reinvestment. Durable cash generation improves ability to service debt, support operations, and fund specialty product investments over the next 2–6 months.
Recovery From Prior Loss YearsThe company moved from losses in 2022–2023 to materially positive margins in 2024, demonstrating operating leverage and management execution. A demonstrated ability to restore profitability increases resilience and supports medium-term planning, supplier relationships, and investment in higher-margin lines.
Higher-value Specialty Product MixA product portfolio that includes specialty oleochemical derivatives (dimer acids, additives) exposes the company to higher-value industrial applications. Structural demand across coatings, adhesives, and lubricants supports more stable volumes and better margin potential if specialty sales gain share over commodity fatty-acid volumes.
Bears Say
High Financial LeverageA debt-to-equity ratio around 2.5x and prior peaks above 5x leave limited financial flexibility. In a cyclical oleochemicals market, high leverage increases refinancing and covenant risk, constrains capital allocation, and magnifies earnings volatility's impact on solvency over the medium term.
Margin Compression And Revenue DeclineA tangible step-down in 2025 revenue and margins reduces the company's buffer to absorb input-cost swings. Structural margin pressure or inability to fully pass through feedstock costs can erode cash flow and weaken credit metrics, limiting the firm's capacity to invest in specialty growth initiatives.
Cyclical Cash-flow VolatilityPast episodes of negative operating cash flow and free cash flow highlight sensitivity to cycle and feedstock prices. Recurring volatility makes long-term planning harder, increases reliance on external financing in downturns, and raises the risk that temporary pressures become sustained if market conditions deteriorate.
