Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Revenue StabilizationStabilized revenue around HK$5.5B indicates a durable recovery in passenger activity and commercial demand. A steady top line supports predictable aeronautical and non-aeronautical cash flows, enabling multi‑period planning for operations, tenant contracts, and maintenance of core airport services.
Positive EBITDA MarginsSustained positive EBITDA margins (17%–23%) show the business covers operating costs and benefits from operating leverage as traffic recovers. For an infrastructure asset, positive EBITDA supports ongoing service delivery and underpins medium‑term cash generation even if depreciation and financing costs remain elevated.
Improved Cash GenerationReturn to positive operating cash flow and FCF of ~HK$0.83B in 2025 reflects improving cash conversion despite accounting losses. Positive FCF provides a durable funding source for maintenance capex and short-term liabilities and reduces immediate reliance on new financing if trends persist.
Bears Say
Persistent Net LossesOngoing operating and net losses constrain retained earnings and the company’s ability to self‑fund growth or rebuild cushions. Even with margin improvement, continued negative net income limits equity compounding, weakens returns on invested capital, and prolongs reliance on external financing for strategic moves.
Rising LeverageLeverage climbing to a debt/equity ratio near 0.89 reduces financial flexibility for a capital‑intensive airport operator. Higher debt increases interest exposure and refinancing risk, limits ability to absorb demand shocks, and may pressure ratings or covenant headroom if operating performance weakens.
Low Debt Coverage / Cash FragilityDespite positive FCF, weak coverage of debt means limited buffer to service obligations after downturns or capex spikes. This structural fragility increases the likelihood of future external funding needs or higher financing costs and constrains long‑term investments in capacity or commercial upgrades.
