Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Fintech/BaaS Fee Growth And Deposit DiversificationRapid fintech/BaaS fee growth and expanding partner programs provide durable noninterest revenue and lower-cost deposit channels. Persistent fee streams and embedded-deposit relationships should reduce dependence on interest spread volatility, improving revenue diversification and margin resilience over coming quarters.
Material Rebound In Cash Generation (TTM)A meaningful rebound in operating and free cash flow strengthens financial flexibility, enabling capital allocation to lending, fintech investments, or shareholder returns. Improved cash generation supports self-funding of operations and buffers the balance sheet against future credit volatility over the medium term.
Stronger Underwriting, Analytics And Special-asset CapabilitiesUpgraded underwriting and analytics are durable structural improvements that lower future loss rates and accelerate workout timelines. These capabilities enhance portfolio resilience, improve risk-adjusted returns, and support scalable growth as lending expands, reducing cyclically driven credit volatility.
Bears Say
Recent Net Losses And Negative ROESustained net losses and negative ROE impair internal capital generation and limit the bank's ability to rebuild reserves or invest without external support. Persistent unprofitability undermines long-term shareholder returns and may constrain strategic options until consistent positive earnings resume.
Elevated Net Charge-offs Concentrated In Franchise FinanceConcentrated losses in the franchise finance portfolio pose a structural credit risk that can drive volatile provisions and impairments. Large, recurring charge-offs erode capital and earnings power, and concentrated workout needs may take multiple quarters to resolve, limiting sustainable margin recovery.
Large Near-term CD Maturities And Funding Renewal RiskHeavy near-term CD rolloffs with depressed renewal rates create funding and repricing risk that can compress net interest income if replacement funding is costlier. Reliance on converting to fintech deposits helps but is not guaranteed; funding mismatch could pressure margins and liquidity in the medium term.

Q2 2026

Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call emphasized clear and measurable improvement across credit metrics (lower provisions, declining delinquencies and non-accruals), strong revenue growth drivers (23% revenue growth, fintech fee acceleration, and NIM expansion) and disciplined capital deployment and expense management. Challenges remain — notably elevated net charge-offs concentrated in franchise finance, residual provisioning needs, early payoffs and a smaller balance sheet that reduced NII guidance — but management presented multiple actionable levers (deposit repricing, fintech deposit growth, higher-yield loan pipelines, and operational enhancements) that are already driving improvement and are expected to continue. On balance, the positive trends and concrete progress on credit and fee-income diversification materially outweigh the remaining headwinds.View all DE:45H earnings summaries45H Stock 12 Month Forecast
