Samsung (SSNLF) is developing high-performance semiconductors for next-generation Extended Reality, or XR, devices, aiming to compete with Apple’s (AAPL) Vision Pro, which uses in-house chips, DigiTimes’ Daniel Chiang and Jay Liang report. According to industry sources, Samsung is actively developing an XR-specific chip at its System-on-Chip Architecture Lab in the Samsung Research America Center, with the development being overseen by the Mobile eXperience division, led by Neeraj Parikh, a chip expert Samsung hired from Intel (INTC) in 2023. Samsung currently has a technical alliance with Qualcomm (QCOM) and plans to use Qualcomm chips in its first XR device, but the in-house developed XR chip is expected to be used in subsequent products, according to the report.
