Lockheed Martin (LMT) has decided to withdraw from the U.S. Air Force’s competition to build at least 75 refueling tankers, Reuters’ Valerie Insinna and Mike Stone report. Lockheed previously teamed up with Airbus (EADSY) in 2018 to offer the A330 multi-role tanker transport, and Airbus will now decide if it will pursue the competition without its partner. Boeing (BA) is also competing with its KC-46 Pegasus. “Lockheed Martin has decided not to respond to the U.S. Air Force’s KC-135 fleet recapitalization Request for Information,” Lockheed spokesperson Stephanie Stinn said in a statement.
