During the pandemic, customers were thankful for delivery drivers, but, with the rise of contactless delivery, customers have become less inclined to tip generously, Kellen Browning of New York Times reports. When customers place an order through DoorDash (DASH) or Uber Eats (UBER), they pay through the app and will decide in advance of the delivery how much they will tip. This tip is not seen by the delivery driver until they have dropped of the food. Meanwhile, Uber and DoorDash themselves pay drivers only a few dollars per trip, so most income for the drivers come from tips. Some delivery drivers have begun rejecting low-value orders and waiting hours for an order from a high-end restaurant with the hopes of turning an evening to a lucrative one. Reference Link
