In the opening hour of the evening session, U.S. equity futures are slipping, with investors seemingly reluctant to underwrite the impending reopening of government that had sparked the bounce on Monday as an all-clear sign for the broader economy. S&P 500 e-minis and Nasdaq 100 futures are down 0.3%, while Dow Industrials – bolstered by its exposure to resurgent Health Care – is flat. In commodities, WTI Crude Oil remains under pressure after Wednesday’s sharp selloff from above $61 per barrel toward $58, while precious metals are consolidating gains – Gold just shy of $4,200 and Silver on the cusp of fresh record highs above $53 per ounce.

Health Care was the best performing sector in the S&P 500 for the second day in a row, with broad-based strength in large-cap Pharma, Biotech, and Medical Devices. Eli Lilly (LLY) is now up 25% in just three weeks, while Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) is up for 9 consecutive sessions at fresh 2025 highs. Conversely, Mag-7, AI plays, and Energy were on the back foot – Palantir (PLTR) fell over 3% and Meta (META) was down nearly 3%, within a whisker of its six-month lows.
Among key earnings afterhours, Cisco (CSCO) shares hit record highs with a 7% jump on stronger than expected top/bottom lines and raised guidance. On the conference call, the company also reflected on its momentum with hyperscalers, specifically noting that four of the major hyperscalers grew triple digits during the quarter,
