Paramount’s (PARA) “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” opened to $60.5M at the domestic box office, winning the weekend and toppling “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.” The movie earned an A- CinemaScore despite mixed reviews. Overseas, “Rise of the Beasts” grossed $110M for a global start of $170.5M.
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Sony’s (SONY) “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” placed number 2 after falling 55% to an estimated $55.4M for a 10-day domestic tally of $225.4M. Behind it was Disney’s (DIS) live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” with $22.8M for a domestic cume of $229.8M. Two other Disney titles took fourth and fifth position. James Gunn and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” placed number 4 with another $7M, while “The Boogeyman” earned $6.9M as it came in in fifth.
