"Box Office Battle" is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.
Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal’s “Fast X” won this weekend at the domestic box office with a $67.5M debut and $318.9M globally, after clearing $251.4M overseas. The movie’s global opening is the second-best of 2023 behind another Universal title, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: Disney’s (DIS) “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” fell to number 2, earning another $32M domestically and $48.8M overseas. Behind it was Illumination and Universal’s Nintendo (NTDOY) video game adaptation “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” with another $9.8M. Meanwhile, “Book Club: The Next Chapter” placed number 4 with $3M for a domestic cume of $13.1M. Rounding out the top five, Warner Bros. (WBD) “Evil Dead Rise” grossed an estimated $2.4M.
