Devon Energy Corp. has announced the appointment of John Bethancourt as the new independent chair of its board of directors, effective July 1, 2024. Bethancourt, a former Chevron executive, takes over from Barbara Baumann, who will retain her position on the board while taking on new responsibilities. The leadership change reflects Devon Energy’s governance policy of chair-CEO separation and is expected to leverage Bethancourt’s extensive industry experience to guide the company’s strategic direction.
