ETF Overview
Aptus Laddered Deep Buffer ETF
Aptus Laddered Deep Buffer ETF (ALDB) is an actively managed fund-of-funds that seeks to offer investors a structured, S&P 500–focused way to reduce downside exposure while maintaining equity market participation. ALDB holds a laddered portfolio of four Aptus “deep buffer” equity ETFs, each designed around the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) and structured to provide predetermined downside buffers for a defined outcome period in exchange for capped upside above specified thresholds.
The laddering approach staggers those outcome periods across the four component funds so that protection and market exposure roll forward smoothly rather than resetting all at once. By combining multiple maturities, ALDB aims to deliver more continuous buffered exposure to the S&P 500, reduce timing risk associated with single-period strategies, and provide a disciplined way to manage transitions and rebalancing. The fund is actively managed to adjust the ladder, maintain target allocations, and respond to changing market conditions.
ALDB’s niche is Structured Outcome — Downside Hedge for S&P 500 investors who want defined, option-based loss buffers without having to implement and manage multiple option collars themselves. The trade-off is explicit: investors receive partial downside protection within each outcome window but accept limited upside beyond the cap and the attendant fees and execution complexity of a fund-of-funds structure. ALDB is suited for those seeking a core or sleeve strategy to temper equity drawdowns while retaining meaningful participation in the S&P 500.
