ETF Overview
Aptus January Deep Buffer ETF
Aptus January Deep Buffer ETF (JADB) is an actively managed, outcome-oriented ETF that seeks to deliver a defined “deep buffer” against a portion of declines in the S&P 500 while allowing for limited participation in its upside over a rolling twelve‑month outcome period. The fund obtains its market exposure primarily via the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) and implements an options overlay using FLEX options — exchange‑traded, customizable, longer-dated options — to construct outcome-focused collars and other structured option positions tailored to the fund’s annual outcome cycle.
The strategy is designed to protect investors from a predetermined tranche of downside over each 12‑month period in exchange for constraining upside above a target participation level. Because the manager actively selects strike levels, expiration profiles and when to roll positions, JADB offers a flexible, tactical approach to achieving a downside‑hedge niche within the broader S&P 500 exposure. Portfolio holdings typically combine core SPY exposure, option overlays implemented with FLEX contracts, and cash or cash equivalents used as collateral and to finance option positions.
JADB is aimed at investors who want equity market participation but prefer a more defined risk‑reward profile than outright long S&P 500 exposure—those seeking protection against a portion of losses while accepting limited upside and the tradeoffs of an options‑based structure. It is not a guarantee against loss: protection is limited to the buffer amount chosen each outcome period, upside capture may be capped or reduced, and results depend on the manager’s option execution, market moves and timing. As an ETF, JADB delivers intraday liquidity and the transparency and operational benefits of an exchange‑traded vehicle while pursuing a structured outcome designed specifically for the S&P 500 niche.
