Q2 2027 Earnings Call Summary
The call was cautiously optimistic. Current growth was modest and several segments, particularly Americas 1, technology and communications, EMR on a year-on-year basis, and healthcare, declined. Q3 guidance also includes sequential revenue contraction of -1.5% to +0.5% because of seasonal furloughs and lower working days. However, margin expanded to 16.5%, cash flow was strong, BFSI and several other markets showed growth, AI-related capabilities and deal activity are expanding, and management described the forward pipeline as extremely strong with potential Q4 benefit from delayed deal signings.
For Q3, Wipro is guiding for IT services revenue of $2.571 billion to $2.625 billion, translating to sequential growth of -1.5% to +0.5% in constant currency; Q3 will remain impacted by seasonal furloughs, expected to be broadly in line with what we saw last year and baked into the guidance, along with lower number of working days. The 2 large deals are in the progress of being signed, management is confident of securing both the deals, and closing them is expected to have a positive impact on the quarter 4 outlook for revenue; health is expected to benefit on account of seasonality in quarter 3, though not to the extent seen in previous years. Management will continuously improve margins, would like to get back to the band as quickly as possible, but is not putting a timeline out there, and is trying to grow the business consistently, sequentially, in terms of the organic growth.
- Resilient IT Services Revenue and Margin ExpansionQ2 IT services revenue was $2.61 billion, flat sequentially and up 0.6% year on year in constant currency. Operating margin was 16.5%, an improvement of 0.5% sequentially, supported by operational improvements and rupee depreciation.
- Strong Performance in Europe and APMEAEurope grew 0.6% sequentially and 5.1% year on year in constant currency, delivering broad-based growth led by BFSI, Consumer and EMR. APMEA grew 3.1% sequentially and 13% year on year, driven by consumer, technology and communications.
- BFSI Momentum and Strong PipelineBFSI revenue grew 1% sequentially and 1.3% year on year in constant currency. Management cited strong wins, a consulting-led transformation deal, improving momentum with a European customer, good performance from Capco, and a very strong BFSI pipeline.
- Consumer Sector GrowthConsumer revenue grew 2.6% sequentially and 6% year on year in constant currency. Growth was supported by traction in CPG, travel and transportation, as well as recent wins and revenue from the OLAM deal.
- EMR Growth and Energy TractionEnergy, manufacturing and resources grew 1% sequentially in constant currency. Management said prior-quarter wins were ramping up and highlighted particularly strong traction in the energy segment.
- Healthy Deal Wins and Consulting-Led StrategyWipro closed $2.6 billion in total contract value and signed 9 large deals in Q2. Bookings included a healthy mix of new business and expansions of existing engagements. Management said consulting-led strategy is increasingly helping originate larger opportunities.
- AI Transformation Wins Across IndustriesWipro cited an AI-enabled operating-model transformation win with a global financial institution, an AI capability-center engagement for a mid-market consumer-products company, an SLM deployment for a major U.S. retail bank, an AI-powered digital plant for a large Middle Eastern petrochemical company, and an enrollment-and-billing SLM deployment for a leading U.S. healthcare payer.
- Strategic Acquisitions Expanding CapabilitiesManagement said MindSprint strengthened Wipro's position in food and agriculture and opened new market opportunities. HARMAN DTS enhanced engineering capabilities, helped win new logos and deepened existing client engagements. The company said it will continue these investments to enhance its strategic position, expand addressable markets and build a stronger foundation for future growth.
- Expansion of AI-Native CapabilitiesWipro's AI-native unit has more than 2,000 engineers, including forward-deployed engineers. Management said the unit is seeing growing success in outcome-based deals and driving non-linear growth, with industry-specific SLMs developed for wealth management, insurance, healthcare, aviation and asset-intensive industries.
- Investment Across Five AI Growth ThemesWipro accelerated investments in AI services and solutions across AI data centers, AI foundry services, physical AI, AI devices, and design-to-manufacturing. Management said these offerings position the company across the full AI value chain and beyond traditional technology spend.
- Robust Cash Flow and Cash PositionOperating cash flow in Q2 was 166% of net income. Gross cash as of September 30 was $4.6 billion.
- EPS Growth Despite Lower Other IncomeEPS was ₹3.23, up 0.9% sequentially and 4.2% year on year. Management identified EPS as the appropriate metric following completion of the buyback in June 2026.
- Healthcare Outsourcing OpportunitiesAlthough U.S. healthcare was affected by policy changes and payers and providers faced cost pressures, management said these conditions are creating new outsourcing opportunities. Wipro's differentiated platform-based offerings and regulatory capabilities are supporting its pipeline, including demand from first-time outsourcers.
- Strong Forward Pipeline and AI DemandManagement said the Q3, Q4 and year-ahead pipeline is extremely strong. Clients continue to focus on AI adoption, AI deployment, innovation, cost optimization and vendor consolidation, while Wipro is seeing traction in AI data centers, AI factories, AI foundry services and physical AI.
- Potential Q4 Revenue Benefit From Delayed DealsManagement said two deals whose paperwork was not signed in Q2 are in the process of being signed and are expected to be secured. The deals are expected to provide revenue immediately after closure and revenue upside in Q4.
- Potential Improvement in Deflationary PressuresManagement said the deflationary cycle has lasted approximately 1.5 to 2 years and that, because contracts typically have average tenures of 2 to 2.5 years, many contracts have already been refreshed or renewed. Management said this could reach an inflection point in a few quarters.
