Bulls Say, Bears Say
Bulls Say
Profitability And Cash-flow RecoveryThe return to positive earnings and materially stronger operating and free cash flow improves internal funding capacity. This gives Cascades more flexibility to invest, reduce debt and withstand cyclical demand or input-cost pressure.
Packaging Market-share And Utilization GainsOutgrowing the industry and sustaining high mill utilization indicate competitive execution and solid customer demand. Better volumes spread fixed costs across production, supporting the long-term economics of the packaging network.
Operational Improvement And Pricing PowerDocumented cost benefits and implemented pricing actions can provide a durable basis for margin recovery if retained by customers. These initiatives complement management's expectation of consolidated EBITDA improvement in the second half of 2026.
Bears Say
Elevated LeverageHigh leverage limits financial flexibility for a cyclical packaging company and increases sensitivity to weaker volumes, higher interest costs or prolonged margin pressure. Modest net-debt reduction has not yet materially changed the balance-sheet risk.
Thin And Volatile ProfitabilityThe earnings recovery remains vulnerable because profitability is modest and has historically fluctuated substantially. Persistent exposure to fiber, energy, logistics and mix costs could prevent recent operating improvements from becoming consistently high-quality margins.
Tariff And Input-cost ExposureCascades remains exposed to external cost inflation and cross-border trade policy. Even with mitigation, higher fiber, freight or tariff costs can compress margins, disrupt export economics and make price increases harder to retain across customers.

Company Description
Cascades
Cascades Inc. is a prominent North American manufacturer, converter, and distributor specializing in a diverse range of packaging and tissue paper products. The company's operations are strategically divided into three key business units: Containerboard, Specialty Products, and Tissue Papers. The Containerboard segment focuses on producing containerboard materials and converting them into various corrugated goods. Its Specialty Products division boasts a diverse portfolio, including recycled uncoated paperboards utilized by packaging converters, industrial clients for paper headers and wrappers, and as protective partitions. This segment also provides honeycomb paperboards tailored for the beverage alcohol sector, laminated paperboards for food packaging and furniture support, alongside custom containers, structural elements, and advanced paperboard and fiber composite materials. Furthermore, it supplies egg filler flats and cartons to poultry processors, four-cup carriers for the fast-food industry, polystyrene foam trays for food processing and retail, rigid plastic packaging solutions for various food applications, and flexible films for frozen food, bakery, and ice products. The Tissue Papers segment encompasses a comprehensive selection of bathroom and facial tissues, paper towels, hand towels, and napkins, along with complementary services. These are sold under professional lines such as Cascades PRO Signature, PRO Perform, PRO Select, PRO Tandem, and PRO Tuff-Job, as well as consumer-focused labels like Cascades Fluff, Cascades Tuff, and Satin Soft, in addition to private label and other brand offerings. Beyond its core manufacturing, Cascades also extends its expertise to material recovery and processing services for discarded materials generated by municipal, industrial, commercial, and institutional entities. Distribution of its products is managed by both an in-house sales team and external representatives. Established in 1964, Cascades Inc. has its corporate headquarters situated in Kingsey Falls, Canada.

CAS Earnings Call
Q2 2026
0:00 / 0:00
Earnings Call Sentiment|Positive
The call conveyed a generally positive operational and financial trajectory driven by sequential improvements in both Packaging and Tissue, record production at multiple mills, meaningful sequential increases in sales, EBITDA and cash flow, progress on profitability programs and asset monetization, and clear price actions planned to support margins. Offsetting factors include ongoing raw material and transportation cost inflation, a modest year-over-year EBITDA decline in Tissue, specific financial losses, unchanged leverage at 3.3x, and potential downside from newly announced U.S. tariffs (assessment underway, estimated up to 5% of adjusted EBITDA run rate). On balance, reported operational momentum, improving cash generation, and management’s mitigation and pricing actions outweigh the headwinds discussed.View all TSE:CAS earnings summariesCAS Stock 12 Month Forecast
